Job description

LOCATION: Remote, Fly-in / Fly-out

CONTRACT TYPE: Full-Time, Fixed Term

At Maven, we build what communities depend on — power, water, gas, and other essential systems that keep communities connected and thriving. Our success is driven by our people: motivated professionals who bring expertise, collaboration, and commitment to every project.

As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a Senior Construction Officer who has site coordination and oversight experience, and, most importantly, aligns with our core values (Safety, Sharing, Standards, Speed, Solutions, and Stretch). This position is based on-site at remote locations across the Northwest Territories and is responsible for overseeing contractors and overall project progress on behalf of our power utility client.

Responsibilities:

The core responsibilities include:

  • Oversee construction activities across all project phases, including civil works, equipment installation, and commissioning at a remote brownfield diesel power generation facility
  • Lead on-site contractor coordination and ensure compliance with client company's procedures, safety policies, and safe work practices
  • Review, implement, and update project safety plans and risk assessments in collaboration with contractors
  • Manage and coordinate testing and commissioning activities
  • Ensure all work complies with construction and contract management standards, including applicable safety requirements
  • Confirm construction materials are delivered, complete, and compliant with approved designs and specifications
  • Coordinate construction delivery, including progress tracking, change management, and deficiency resolution
  • Prepare and submit daily site reports and maintain accurate project documentation
  • Participate in daily tailboard meetings and ensure timely incident reporting and follow-up
  • Maintain regular communication with contractors, plant operations, and the project manager regarding progress and changes
  • Liaise with engineers, professionals of record, and project stakeholders to identify and resolve site issues
  • Provide technical input and respond to construction-related inquiries
  • Support site logistics coordination, including charter flight planning and alignment with plant operations
  • Assist with minor site or camp maintenance activities as required (training provided)
  • Work extended hours (up to 12 hours per day, 7 days per week) based on project needs

Who we are looking for:

  • Diploma in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Technology, a relevant trade certification, apprenticeship courses, or equivalent working experience
  • Minimum 7 years of construction or site monitoring experience, preferably in remote or industrial environments
  • Strong experience in contractor coordination and construction oversight
  • Proven ability to enforce safety procedures and implement project safety plans and risk assessments
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements (WSCC Supervisor OHS Familiarization required)
  • Valid First Aid certification
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Effective communication skills with contractors and project stakeholders
  • Experience with daily reporting and site documentation
  • Ability to work extended hours (up to 12 hours/day, 7 days/week) in remote site conditions
  • Comfortable travelling and working in adverse weather conditions or at heights/underground
  • Comfortable working in remote Northwest Territories locations, including camp-based or rotational settings
  • Willingness to complete required safety and work protection training (post-hire)
  • Advanced English skills for professional environment, written and spoken.

Why Join Maven:

  • Do meaningful work – Deliver projects that build what communities depend on, from power and water to gas and other essential infrastructure across Western Canada.
  • Grow professionally without big corporate overhead – Take on the complexity and professional challenges of large-scale projects while enjoying the efficiency, agility, and support of a mid-sized team.

  • Join a growth story – Maven has been recognized as one of Western Canada’s fastest-growing professional services firms, with a vision to become the trusted, industry-leading partner in infrastructure delivery.

Compensation:
