Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer – Distribution

MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting for a Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer – Distribution to join a growing multidisciplinary engineering team supporting major utility infrastructure projects across British Columbia.

This role is ideal for a highly experienced electrical distribution engineer who enjoys remaining technically engaged while providing mentorship, leadership, and guidance to the next generation of engineers. The successful candidate will serve as a senior technical resource within the organization, contributing to project delivery, engineering excellence, team development, and strategic growth initiatives.

This opportunity is particularly well suited for someone with extensive utility experience who is looking to leverage their knowledge, coach developing engineers, and play a meaningful leadership role during the later stages of their career.

Responsibilities

Lead the planning, design, and delivery of overhead and underground electrical distribution projects

• Act as Professional of Record (PoR) and assume responsibility for engineering deliverables, technical quality, and regulatory compliance
• Prepare, review, approve, and seal engineering designs, calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports
• Provide technical leadership throughout planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project closeout phases
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams consisting of electrical, civil, structural, telecommunications, protection and control, environmental, and project delivery professionals
• Mentor engineers, EITs, technologists, and technical leads while supporting succession planning and professional development
• Support project managers with scope, schedule, budget, constructability, risk management, and technical quality
• Collaborate with utility clients, regulators, contractors, Indigenous Nations, landowners, and project stakeholders
• Participate in proposal development, client presentations, business development activities, and technical interviews
• Contribute to engineering standards, technical governance, quality management systems, and best practices
• Support recruitment, resource planning, capability development, and long-term engineering team growth
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering quality, project delivery performance, and client satisfaction

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with EGBC or eligibility for registration in British Columbia
• Minimum 10 years of electrical distribution engineering experience, with preference for candidates with 15+ years
• Strong experience designing 25kV and under overhead and underground distribution systems
• Demonstrated experience acting as Professional of Record (PoR) or Engineer of Record (EoR)
• Extensive knowledge of utility engineering standards, distribution design practices, and applicable engineering codes
• Experience delivering utility infrastructure projects through planning, design, construction, and commissioning phases
• Proven ability to mentor, coach, and develop engineering teams
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and client relationship skills
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and utility engineering software

Preferred Qualifications

Direct experience supporting utility projects in British Columbia

• Experience with SPIDAcalc and PLS-CADD
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Experience supporting engineering practice development, technical governance, quality management, and organizational growth
• Experience with ArcGIS, ProjectWise, GIS-based utility systems, or similar engineering platforms
• Experience collaborating with Indigenous Nations and supporting Indigenous engagement activities
• Experience delivering distribution, transmission, or substation projects for utilities, EPCM organizations, or consulting firms
