Job description
Adecco is currently hiring a full-time Environmental Impact Officer to support infrastructure growth projects across Western Canada. This role focuses on environmental permitting, compliance, and mitigation for construction, maintenance, and special environmental initiatives (e.g., biodiversity, fisheries, wildlife protection).
You will collaborate with internal teams, contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies to ensure projects meet environmental regulations, safety standards, and sustainability goals.

Responsibilities:
Environmental Assessment & Permitting
  • Conduct and support environmental assessments and mitigation planning
  • Coordinate and participate in field studies and environmental reviews
  • Prepare and submit environmental permits and regulatory applications
  • Collaborate with project managers, consultants, and regulatory agencies
  • Provide environmental support for construction and emergency projects
  • Ensure quality through QA/QC review of technical reports and documentation
Compliance & Monitoring
  • Monitor project sites to ensure compliance with permits, regulations, and BMPs (Best Management Practices)
  • Review contractor and consultant deliverables for regulatory compliance
  • Support incident investigations and mitigation strategies
  • Deliver environmental training to staff and contractors
  • Track and complete post-construction monitoring and reporting requirements
  • Report non-compliance issues and recommend corrective actions
Stakeholder Engagement & Performance
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, regulators, and external partners
  • Support performance tracking and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assist in managing environmental project budgets and reporting
  • Contribute to the development of environmental strategies, systems, and databases

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in:
    • Environmental assessment & permitting
    • Compliance monitoring
    • Regulatory engagement
  • Experience managing consultants and contractors
  • Experience in fisheries or marine environments (asset)
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations (BC & Alberta preferred)
  • Understanding of ecology, fisheries, wildlife, and species at risk
  • Knowledge of construction activities and mitigation practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of rail operations or SAP (asset)
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management
  • Ability to adapt in dynamic regulatory environments
  • Collaborative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Commitment to environmental sustainability and safety leadership
  • Mu st be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada
