Heavy Duty Field Mechanic
IRON 5 Equipment & Repair Ltd. | Nisku, Alberta | Full-Time
You like figuring things out. So do we.
At IRON 5 Equipment & Repair Ltd., we're a growing repair and maintenance shop based in Nisku — and we're building a team of mechanics who take real pride in their work. We specialize in commercial fleets, heavy trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and fleet vehicles, and we're known for quality workmanship and dependable service.
We're looking for an experienced Heavy Duty Field Mechanic who's comfortable working independently, enjoys a good diagnostic puzzle, and doesn't mind the variety that comes with supporting customers across multiple industries.
What You'll Work On
No two days look the same around here. You might be chasing a hydraulic fault on a piece of construction equipment in the morning and troubleshooting an electrical issue on a fleet truck by afternoon — then finishing the week with shop repairs. The full scope includes:
- Heavy trucks
- Commercial trailers
- Construction and heavy equipment
- Light-duty fleet vehicles
- Vocational and specialty equipment
If it rolls, hauls, digs, or lifts — there's a good chance you'll work on it.
What You'll Be Doing
- Diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy trucks, trailers, equipment, and fleet vehicles
- Performing preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing
- Troubleshooting diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, air systems, and driveline components
- Completing inspections and identifying repair recommendations
- Accurately completing digital work orders and service documentation
- Communicating professionally with customers and teammates in the field and shop
- Keeping your workspace clean, organized, and safe
- Supporting both field service and shop operations as needed
What We're Looking For
Required
- Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician, Commercial Transport Technician, or registered Apprentice
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to manage field service calls independently
- Good communication and a professional approach with customers
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Assets That'll Make You Stand Out
- CVIP Licence
- Class 1 Driver's Licence
- Experience with Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit, PACCAR, Volvo, or similar platforms
- Hydraulic and electrical diagnostic experience
- Background working on mixed fleets and construction equipment
What We Offer
- $45–$50/hour based on experience and qualifications
- Paid overtime after 8 hours/day
- Health and dental benefits (after probation)
- Boot allowance (after probation)
- Tool allowance (after probation)
- Training and development opportunities
- A strong, team-oriented culture
- Diverse and genuinely challenging work — no hamster wheel here
Schedule & Expectations
This role is a blend of field and shop work — and you'll be home every night. All work is local, so no out-of-town or overnight travel is required. You'll need to be available for overtime, urgent breakdown calls, and the odd weekend when the situation calls for it. In the field, you represent IRON 5 — so professionalism matters as much as your technical skills.
Why IRON 5?
We're not a revolving door. We're building something — a team of skilled tradespeople who give a damn about the work they put out. If you're looking for a place where your experience is respected, your skills are put to use across a wide range of work, and your contributions actually matter, we'd like to hear from you.
Apply today and come be part of the IRON 5 team.
