Job descriptionPosition Overview We are looking for a skilled and detail‑oriented SMT Technician to join our electronics manufacturing team on the evening shift in Kanata. This role is responsible for supporting SMT production activities, troubleshooting equipment issues, maintaining production quality, and ensuring efficient manufacturing operations.
The ideal candidate will bring hands‑on SMT manufacturing experience, strong troubleshooting capabilities, and the ability to work effectively within a fast‑paced production environment. This position plays a key role in reducing downtime, supporting equipment performance, and maintaining production output and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Support setup preparation for SMT machines including feeder setup, stencil alignment, material verification, and program loading
Operate and maintain SMT production equipment including solder paste printing, pick‑and‑place machines, and reflow ovens
Perform troubleshooting activities to identify and resolve machine or production issues
Inspect PCB assemblies to identify missing or misaligned components and verify alignment against engineering diagrams
Support PCB rework and repair activities as required
Assist with preventive maintenance and yearly maintenance activities on SMT equipment
Read and interpret electrical diagrams, assembly drawings, BOMs, and work instructions
Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to support manufacturing operations and resolve production concerns
Maintain accurate production records and follow quality and ESD safety procedures
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment uptime, production efficiency, and quality output
Qualifications
Minimum 1 to 3 years of SMT manufacturing or electronics assembly experience
Experience troubleshooting SMT equipment and manufacturing processes
Ability to read and understand electrical or engineering diagrams
Educational background in electronics, electrical engineering, electro‑mechanical engineering, robotics, or related field preferred
Strong attention to detail and quality‑focused mindset
Experience working in a manufacturing environment
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a production team
Experience with SMT machine programming, IPC610, PCB rework, or preventive maintenance is considered an asset
Experience with JUKI SMT equipment, SPI, AOI, or conformal coating equipment is considered an asset
Additional Requirements
Ability to work fully onsite in Kanata
Availability to work evening shift schedules
Comfort working in a manufacturing environment with SMT production equipment
Adaptability to changing production priorities and schedules
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Compensation $50,000 to $56,000
