This is a full-time permanent position working 75 hours bi-weekly.

About the Branch:

The Sport and Recreation branch is committed to providing leadership and support for the health wellbeing and quality of life for Yukoners through sport physical activity and recreation. It provides funding leadership and support to athletes coaches sport organizations First Nations and community groups while creating opportunities for participation and high-performance development through major events and programs. The branch also works with partners to enhance recreation services promote physical literacy build community capacity and improve access to safe inclusive facilities and programming for people of all ages and abilities.

About The Position:

The First Nations Recreation and Sport Consultant builds strong collaborative relationships with Yukon First Nations to support inclusive sport recreation and active living opportunities across the territory. The role provides funding planning and program support to First Nations sport and community organizations while advancing Indigenous sport participation across the territory. It also supports Major Games advances safe sport initiatives and works to strengthen partnerships reduce barriers and create meaningful opportunities for Indigenous athletes coaches and communities.

Essential Qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume; ensure you use a month/year to month/year format and include the duties you performed in each of your positions.

  • Bachelors degree in Sport or Recreation Administration Sport Management or related field.
  • Experience developing planning and managing sport and recreation projects or programs.
  • Significant experience working with Indigenous Peoples and communities.
  • Experience working with rural or remote communities underrepresented groups Indigenous organizations and the non-profit sectors.
  • Experience managing funding applications budgets and financial resources.
  • Experience contributing to the development interpretation or implementation of guidelines frameworks or strategic approaches that support sport recreation or community programming.

Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience will be equally considered.


Desired Knowledge Skills and Suitability

Candidates should have and may be assessed on:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with volunteers and community organizations/groups in a variety of roles and the ability to develop and strengthen partnerships and stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong organizational prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and supportively within a small dynamic team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Sound research and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of sport and recreation plans and strategies Yukon sport and recreation sector its key organizations structure and relevant issues and opportunities.
  • Familiar with areas of local governance including Yukon First Nation Governments and the roles and responsibilities of recreation authorities in incorporated and unincorporated communities.
  • Experience in developing and delivering public presentations workshops and courses is an asset.

Condition(s) of Employment: Valid Yukon Class 5 drivers license (or equivalent).

Job Requirement(s): Must be willing and able to travel work evenings weekends & on short notice.
