Introduction & Key Role Objectives

WJ Groundwater is the leading construction dewatering and groundwater specialist in the UK with operations in Canada the Middle East Poland & the Philippines. We have specialized plant and equipment that allows us to install custom dewatering systems in various environments including from within tunnels and shafts and from the surface.

Yard operations are an essential part of our business and are pivotal in enabling WJ Canadas ability to execute projects on time and on budget. The principal function of this role is to provide support to yard operations and perform general labour duties.

The position is currently located in Gormley and is expected to relocate to Peterborough in September; candidates must be able to work in Gormley until the transition takes place.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Clean disassemble and sort fittings.
• Load unload move material by hand or by using material handling equipment (i.e. skid steer telehandler forklift etc.).
• Handle count sort stack pack and unpack materials and assets as part of the material handling work.
• Perform welding and spray painting as part of fabrication maintenance and general labour duties.
• Clean and refurbish machinery pumps tanks etc.
• Ensure work areas are kept clean and trash and recycle is properly disposed of as needed.
• Complete daily paperwork logs and inspection sheets as required.
• Fabrication of assemblies as preparation for site work.
• Be responsible for own health and safety and that of colleagues in accordance with current construction guidance and relevant legislation.

Qualifications & Experience

• A motivated and hardworking individual with good verbal communication skills is essential.
• Knowledge of warehousing maintenance construction or similar work in a similar environment is essential.
• The ability to work without supervision and independently solve problems.
• 1 year of plumbing piping or similar experience.
• Experience with welding and spray painting.
• Knowledge of basic MS Excel functionalities is considered an asset.
• Experience and licensing for skid steer operation is an essential requirement.
• Experience with power tools.
• Experience working in a mechanic workshop is considered an asset.
• Experience within a warehousing or logistics environment is considered an asset

Working Conditions: Warehouse and Construction Yard Environment

• Physical Demands: Frequent standing walking on uneven surfaces and lifting of items up to fifty pounds. Bending crouching reaching climbing and operating construction equipment are often required to complete tasks.
• Temperature Variability: The warehouse may not be climate-controlled leading to exposure to extreme temperatures especially during summer and winter months.
• Exposure to Elements: Regular exposure to various weather conditions including rain snow heat and cold. Work is often conducted outdoors in all seasons.
• Noise Level: Expect a moderate to high noise level due to machinery equipment and other warehouse activities. Hearing protection may be required for certain tasks.
• Safety Protocols: Adherence to all safety guidelines and protocols including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves safety glasses and steel-toed boots is mandatory.
• Work Hours: Standard working hours are from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday to Friday. Occasional flexibility in working hours may be required.
