Emerson has an immediate opening for a Buyer/Customs Analyst reporting to the Materials Manager. In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring company compliance to all government legislation for import/export and trade requirements and assisting the buying/planning team with various responsibilities. AS A BUYER/CUSTOMS ANALYST, YOU WILL:
- Develop, maintain, and apply systems and procedures to ensure compliance with export/import laws and regulations.
- Monitor regulatory and legislative changes as well as oversee classification of products.
- Coordination and preparation of documentation required for export shipments.
- Responsible for the preparation and issuance of purchase orders for products and services.
- Work with suppliers to develop strong relationships to facilitate sourcing, quoting and providing support for corporate initiatives.
- Maintaining classification of Tariff Codes and country of origin
- Responsible for promoting and speaking to International Trade compliance within the company
- Facilitate resolution of supply chain disruptions related to customs or other government department requirements.
- Responsible for providing regulatory compliance guidance on import/exports.
- Support NAFTA and general preferential trade programs and ensure compliance.
- Support supply chain security initiatives such as PIP-CTPAT
- Manage issues relating to proper legal interpretation of the Harmonized Tarif Schedule, Country of Origin designations, Customs Valuations, International Trade Administration’s
- Anti-dumping regulated product flows, duty drawback, and other governmental programs driving exemptions of products and purchases.
- Assist in developing and maintaining policies procedures and instructions manual to assure compliance with import and export laws, regulations, administrative practices, and supply chain security.
- Creating and sending purchase orders, checking for confirmations and pricing, tracking delivery in some circumstances.
- Contacting suppliers and working with teams to source new items.
- Work with and assist corporate MRO buyers on projects.
- Responsible for maintaining supply vending machines.
- Assist the buying/planning team with duties as needed including being a back up
- Helping team members to achieve overall department and company goals

FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:
Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or equivalent.
Experience in developing supplier relationships and driving supplier initiatives.
2+ years of relevant experience
Experience with USMCA declarations
Strong communication, organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
Solid analytical skills
Proven track record in project management
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work as part of a team
Flexibility for assigned tasks outside of assigned role
Legal authorization to work in Canada – sponsorship will not be provided for this position
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART:
Certified Trade Compliance Specialist (CTCS) designation
Knowledge of ERP such as BaaN Systems and Oracle is an asset.
Commercial invoice preparation experience
Product classification (HTS) experience
Experience working with rules to determine country of origin and valuation

The hourly pay for this role is $70,000 – $80,000, commensurate with the skills, talent, capabilities, and experience each candidate brings to a role.
