Job description

About Us

This role is with Sunrise Window Cleaners, powered by ZenaTech.

We are a Drone-as-a-Service (DaaS) company specializing in aerial exterior cleaning of buildings, industrial structures, wind turbines, solar farms, and hard-to-access surfaces. We are hiring a mid-level Remote Pilot to safely operate our heavy-lift power washing drone systems at client sites across Nova Scotia. You will be responsible for end-to-end mission execution — from pre-flight planning and risk assessment through to flight operations, on-site equipment setup, and post-flight reporting.

This is a hands-on role that blends precision piloting with physical site work. If you enjoy being outdoors, problem-solving under varied conditions, and seeing immediate, visible results from your work, we’d like to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy-lift power washing drones (tethered and untethered systems) to clean roofs, façades, gutters, signage, solar panels, and industrial structures in compliance with Transport Canada regulations.
  • Conduct site assessments, airspace checks (NAV CANADA / NAV Drone), and risk evaluations prior to every operation.
  • Develop and file flight plans, obtain necessary authorizations (NAV Drone, SFOC where applicable), and coordinate with property owners and ground crew.
  • Set up, calibrate, and maintain drone equipment, water/chemical delivery systems, hoses, generators, and pressure pumps on-site.
  • Pilot the drone with precision in proximity to structures, often in variable coastal weather conditions common to Nova Scotia.
  • Lead or assist a visual observer (VO) and ground crew during operations, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
  • Perform pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight inspections; log flight hours, incidents, and maintenance activities.
  • Document work with before/after imagery and submit job completion reports to clients and management.
  • Transport equipment to and from job sites using a company vehicle and trailer.
  • Communicate professionally with clients on-site regarding scope, safety perimeters, and outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Transport Canada Advanced Operations RPAS Pilot Certificate (valid and in good standing).
  • Minimum 2–4 years of commercial drone piloting experience, with demonstrable hours on heavy-lift, payload-carrying, or industrial-application drones.
  • Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driver’s licence (or equivalent) with a clean abstract; comfortable towing a trailer.
  • Experience flying in proximity operations (close to buildings, structures, or assets).
  • Strong understanding of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) Part IX, NOTAMs, controlled airspace, and NAV Drone authorizations.
  • Comfortable with manual flight modes — not solely reliant on autonomous waypoint missions.
  • Physically capable of lifting 25+ kg, working at heights on ladders or scissor lifts, and performing extended outdoor work in varied weather.
  • Strong situational awareness, judgment, and ability to make safety-critical decisions independently.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with drones over 25 kg and familiarity with the SFOC application process.
  • Background in pressure washing, exterior cleaning, building maintenance, or industrial trades.
  • Mechanical aptitude — able to troubleshoot pumps, hoses, fittings, and drone hardware in the field.
  • Working at Heights training, WHMIS, First Aid/CPR.
  • Familiarity with thermal/RGB drone inspection (an asset for upselling adjacent services).
  • Experience with drone fleet management software and digital flight logbooks.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • Company vehicle for job-site travel.
  • Paid training on proprietary power washing drone systems.
  • Opportunity to grow into Chief Pilot or Operations Lead as the company scales.
  • Work on novel, headline-grabbing projects across Atlantic Canada.
