We are currently seeking a qualified Subject Matter Expert to develop an online undergraduate computer science course.
CPSC 2050 Human-Computer Interaction

This role will focus on weekly learning content development for Bachelor of Computer Science students in UFreds fully online undergraduate program.

CPSC 2050 Human-Computer Interaction introduces students to the possibilities issues challenges and limitations associated with human-computer interaction. The course examines how people engage with technology how user needs shape interface design and how effective interfaces can support usability accessibility accountability inclusion and responsible communication of information. The course also includes applied excursions into graphics interaction techniques human vision and visualization.

The course outline course learning outcomes broad weekly structure and assessment direction are already established or in progress. This contract is focused primarily on developing clear accurate student-friendly weekly learning materials within that structure.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will develop high-quality undergraduate learning content for CPSC 2050 Human-Computer Interaction that aligns with UFred academic standards the approved course structure and the needs of asynchronous online learners.

Responsibilities include:

Develop weekly instructional content examples explanations and applied learning materials for an undergraduate Human-Computer Interaction course in an asynchronous online program.

Translate assigned readings and established course topics into clear weekly learning narratives that are accessible to undergraduate learners.

Support core HCI topics including usability user-centred design user research design processes interaction techniques UX accessibility privacy accountability fairness human vision graphics image formats and visualization.

Create or identify practical examples and short applied cases that connect HCI concepts to realistic computing interface design and evaluation scenarios.

Work within the approved course outcomes weekly structure selected readings and assessment direction while flagging minor content gaps or refinements where needed.

This is best suited to someone with substantive HCI UX usability interaction design accessibility or visualization expertise. It is not intended as a general computer science content role with only incidental exposure to UX terminology.

What youll need

Qualifications

A completed or in-progress PhD in Computer Science Human-Computer Interaction Information Science Interaction Design UX Cognitive Science Digital Media or a closely related field is preferred. Candidates with a relevant masters degree and substantial applied teaching professional or curriculum-development experience will also be considered.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in one or more areas such as human-computer interaction usability UX research interaction design accessibility user-centred design interface evaluation visualization human factors responsible technology design or related applied computing/design fields. They should be comfortable explaining HCI concepts to undergraduate students developing clear online learning materials and working pragmatically within an established course-development process.

Additional qualifications include experience developing course content applied learning activities case studies lecture materials or assessments at the post-secondary level; strong written communication skills and attention to detail; familiarity with online learning principles; and the ability to meet agreed-upon development timelines. Experience with learning management systems or educational technology tools is considered an asset.

Term of Appointment

This is a contract-based appointment aligned with UFreds course development cycle. The immediate need is for a candidate who can move quickly with the goal of having the right person ready to begin around June 10.

The assigned work will focus on weekly content development for an already-structured undergraduate HCI course. Instructional delivery opportunities may follow the course launch based on program needs and candidate availability. Where possible UFred prefers that course developers also teach the courses they develop.

The scope of the assigned course development will determine contract length and workload.
