Job description

Nova Hotels is a Canadian, family-owned and operated hotel group with 13 full and limited-service hotels across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories. At Nova, hospitality starts with people. We care about creating comfortable stays for our guests, memorable events for our clients, and a supportive workplace for our teams.

Whether we are helping a guest settle in, preparing for a special celebration, or solving a last-minute event challenge, our team shows up with care, accountability, and a willingness to find a way.

At Chateau Nova Yellowknife, our banquets and events are more than room set-ups and timelines. They are breakfasts, coffee breaks, luncheons, dinners, cocktail receptions, galas, meetings, celebrations, and moments that matter to our guests and clients.

We are looking for a Banquets Manager to lead our banquet operations from set-up through service, tear-down, and clean-up. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys leading a team, staying calm under pressure, and creating smooth, memorable event experiences.

About the Role

As the Banquets Manager, you will oversee all aspects of banquet and catering service. You will lead the banquet team, coordinate event execution, liaise with hosts, and ensure guests receive warm, professional, and efficient service.

You will be hands-on in the operation, which means you are just as comfortable leading the team as you are jumping in to serve, bartend, troubleshoot, or help reset a room when needed. This role requires strong communication, organization, flexibility, and the ability to keep things moving with a positive attitude, even when the pace is fast and the banquet room has other plans.

The Banquets Manager must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and shift work based on business needs.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the set-up, service, tear-down, and clean-up of banquet and catering functions
  • Assist with the planning, organizing, and execution of banquet events, including breakfasts, coffee breaks, luncheons, dinners, cocktail receptions, galas, and other functions
  • Follow established Food & Beverage standards, procedures, and service expectations
  • Attend Food & Beverage meetings to stay informed about upcoming functions, menus, and event requirements
  • Assign duties to banquet team members for each event
  • Stay in regular contact with the event host to ensure the function runs smoothly
  • Supervise service during events to ensure quality, timing, presentation, and guest satisfaction
  • Promote a solutions-focused service environment where the team looks for ways to make things work
  • Handle immediate guest or client concerns professionally and effectively
  • Check banquet rooms before events to ensure set-up and departmental standards are met
  • Report maintenance issues, defects, or repair needs promptly
  • Communicate event details and client requirements clearly with other hotel departments
  • Conduct site inspections for prospective clients when needed
  • Check the quality and delivery of catering services before they are released
  • Support the Lounge and Restaurant when required
  • Oversee the Restaurant and Lounge in the absence of other supervisors
  • Work the floor during events as needed, including serving, bartending, clearing, resetting, or supporting the team wherever required
  • Adhere to Nova Hotels standards, including hygiene, health and safety, food safety, and guest service expectations
  • Complete other related duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For

  • 2–3 years of experience in hotel banquets, catering, food and beverage, or event service
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience is considered an asset
  • Strong customer service skills and a genuine enjoyment of working with people
  • Ability to lead, coach, and support a team during busy service periods
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to keep events organized
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and shift work
  • A hands-on leadership style and willingness to jump in wherever needed
  • A positive, professional attitude and commitment to quality service

Key Strengths for Success

  • You enjoy creating positive guest and client experiences
  • You lead by example and are not afraid to roll up your sleeves
  • You stay calm and solutions-focused when plans change
  • You know that great events require teamwork, communication, and follow-through
  • You take pride in service standards, presentation, and the little details
  • You bring energy, professionalism, and a genuine hospitality mindset to your work

What We Offer

At Nova Hotels, you will be part of a supportive, team-oriented workplace where people look out for one another and take pride in creating great guest and client experiences.

We offer:

  • Competitive wages
  • Meal program
  • Extended health benefits for full-time employees
  • Employee discounts in our food and beverage outlets
  • Staff rates at Nova Hotels across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories
  • Friends and family hotel rates
  • Opportunities to learn, grow, and build your hospitality career

Eligibility

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

We thank all applicants for their interest in Nova Hotels. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
