Compensation
Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
· Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $ per hour.
· Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $ per hour.
· In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
Duties
The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.
Qualifications
a) Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree in Tourism or have completed an Honours Degree in Tourism or equivalent*
b) Applicant must have an average of 80% or higher in 2 undergraduate degree courses in the area of Tourism Management or an equivalent* undergraduate course area
c) Applicant must have strong knowledge and past course experience in the area of Event Management or equivalent*
d) Previous successful undergraduate teaching and marking experience is an asset
e) Computer literacy, familiarity with evaluation of electronically submitted assignments, and a working knowledge of Sakai
f) Work experience in the tourism industry is an asset
g) Ability to perform the various duties of the position
h) Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
i) Must be dependable and have strong time management skills
j) High level of interpersonal skills and effective verbal communication
k) Academic integrity and professionalism
*Equivalency will be determined by the course instructor. Applicant must make a case that their qualifications are equivalent to those required above.
