Position Overview:
The Intake Worker – Social Services (Summer Student) is a front-line client support position at CCSYR. As part of the School Settlement team, the summer student will support initial client intake processes, assist with service navigation, and help improve access to programs for individuals and families across York Region. Working under the guidance of experienced staff, the Intake Worker will contribute to client assessments, support information gathering, and assist in connecting clients to appropriate services, aligned with CCSYR’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the client intake process by greeting clients, collecting basic information, and assisting with initial service requests,
- Assist in conducting preliminary needs assessments to help identify appropriate programs and services for clients,
- Provide general information and referrals to clients regarding CCSYR services and external community resources, under staff supervision,
- Maintain accurate records by supporting the collection and entry of client and program data in accordance with CCSYR standards,
- Assist with scheduling appointments, coordinating follow-ups, and managing intake-related documentation,
- Help ensure a welcoming, respectful, and client-centered environment for individuals accessing services,
- Assist in preparing intake materials, forms, and basic reports, when required,
- Collaborate with team members and participate in meetings and training sessions to support effective service delivery.
Skills:
- Interest in social services, client support, settlement services, or non-profit sector work,
- Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the needs of diverse newcomer, immigrant, and refugee communities,
- Understanding of Anti-Oppression and Anti-Racism Frameworks is considered an asset,
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills,
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation,
- Comfort with technology and communication platforms, incl. Microsoft Office and virtual meeting tools,
- Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality and professional conduct,
- Understanding and adherence to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA),
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team,
- Strong organizational and time management skills,
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment,
- Previous volunteer, academic, or community involvement in client services, administration, or social services is considered an asset.
This vacancy is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs grant. In order to be eligible, youth must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period,
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment,
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
International students and other temporary residents of Canada are not eligible.

Expected Compensation: Gross salary will be $17.60 per hour based on 35 hours per week for 8 working weeks. All payments are subject to the required statutory employee deductions.
