About the Role Reporting to Manager, Services and Supports, the Autism Support Assistant ensures that the day‑to‑day support provided to people with Autism meets the expectations of supported persons and enhances their quality of life, aligning with the values of Kerry’s Place Autism Services.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate a strong work ethic and act according to Kerry’s Place Autism Services Employee Performance Standards, respecting all people
Use creativity and resourcefulness to apply quality‑of‑life principles and enhance dignity and respect for supported individuals
Provide solutions to barriers impacting quality‑of‑life achievement and participate to ensure personal outcomes are met as defined by each participant
Understand and implement actions to support individuals in achieving goals identified in their Person‑Directed Plans
Provide appropriate supports, tools, etc., to ensure health, safety, and compliance with health‑safety and abuse‑prevention policies
Consistently implement Behaviour Support Plan and skill‑building strategies directed by the Clinical Therapist and/or Clinical Supervisor, with observation and supervision as required
Provide support and coaching in social skills, communication, vocation, daily living skills, and leisure activities
Maintain a clean and safe work area; report safety concerns immediately and document accidents, injuries, and near misses
Use Kerry’s Place Autism Services resources cost‑effectively
Ensure accurate, timely documentation for legislative, policy, and procedural requirements, including individuals’ files, health records, Person‑Directed Plans, and data collection
Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, natural supports, volunteers, professionals, community members, and others you interact with in the course of work
Administer medication according to policy and procedure, understanding purpose, expected effects, and monitoring side effects
Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Qualifications
Completion of a Developmental Service Worker Diploma from a recognized community college or human services diploma/degree from a recognized community college or university, or a Personal Support Worker certificate from a community college or an approved private career college
Completion of Ontario Secondary School (or equivalent) and one year of related experience (preferably supporting people with Autism)
Knowledge Requirements
Solid communication skills, oral and written
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team
Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, and sound judgment
Self‑motivation and ability to motivate others
French language is an asset
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
Ability to physically support children, youth, and adults with Autism
Ability to perform required physical techniques of NVCI training from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI). Training will be provided
Flexible working hours and ability to travel as required
Valid Driver’s License (minimum G2) and reliable vehicle with proof of third‑party liability insurance
Must be able to provide a Driver’s Abstract in good standing with fewer than three demerit points
