Job descriptionJob Overview
Imagine Communications is seeking a Software Engineer with web development expertise to join our engineering team in Toronto, Canada, or Cambridge, UK (both remote‑friendly). This role focuses on web‑based user interfaces for real‑time broadcast and media monitoring systems. Responsibilities
Implement responsive, accessible UIs using raw HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, and TypeScript with Stencil (web components). Develop reusable UI components and patterns for status dashboards, alarm views, signal tiles, layouts, and device configuration screens. Work with CGI endpoints written in Perl or Python; design and execute queries against PostgreSQL. Profile and troubleshoot web UI to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies. Collaborate with QA, DevOps, and product teams to ensure robust feature delivery. Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of code quality and architecture. Support ongoing code maintenance, refactoring, and technical debt reduction. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience. Strong hands‑on with semantic HTML, modern JavaScript (ES6+), CSS fundamentals, and jQuery for legacy/CGI‑driven views. Solid experience with TypeScript and component‑based development using Stencil (or similar). Experience with Node.js and ExpressJS for building RESTful/streaming endpoints, understanding of middleware, routing, and error handling. Comfortable reading/writing Perl or Python CGI scripts, form handlers, and templating in server‑rendered flows. Practical experience configuring Nginx (reverse proxy, caching, compression, TLS, upstreams). Working knowledge of PostgreSQL (schemas, indexing, joins, migrations, performance basics). Experience building and running services in Docker, composing multi‑container environments. Familiarity with Playwright or similar testing tools; knowledge of security and performance profiling for production UIs. Version control with Git, code reviews, and transparent technical communication. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in Agile teams. Preferred Experience
Streaming media video playback in the browser. Docker Compose, container networking, and basic Linux administration on appliance‑like environments. UX experience with operator consoles, tiled layouts, keyboard navigation, and multi‑monitor workflows. Benefits
