We are always in search of the best in the industry, passionate professionals who are enthusiastic, self-motivated, innovative, and entrepreneurial team players.

As an Underwriting Co-Op Student, Cyber & Technology, you will have the opportunity to develop key skills and to build a successful underwriting career at a growing company that has consistently met financial growth objectives.

Underwriting in the Cyber & Technology space focuses on analyzing evolving digital risk factors -including data breaches, ransomware, system failures, technology errors & omissions, and emerging cyber threats - and making informed decisions on whether or not to stake corporate capital. Additionally, the role requires sales and marketing skills through interaction with brokers to differentiate our cyber and technology products and services from our competitors'.

Cyber & Technology Underwriters should have a mix of strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills while acting as decisive problem solvers who lean on curiosity and research to assess risk and thrive within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

This position offers you the chance to develop risk selection acumen, insurance knowledge, and hone your negotiation skills, while building relationships with brokers in the industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of cyber and technology renewal policies assigned to you within your department.
  • Interact and negotiate with brokers on sales strategies, policy terms and pricing.
  • Seek out new business opportunities by attending corporate networking events and foster new relationships with multi-tiered brokerages.
  • Handle underwriters' renewal portfolios and strive to achieve target financial metrics in different lines of business.
  • Research Canadian and global businesses across multiple industries to identify risk factors specific to their operations, suppliers, and customers.
  • Analyze financial stability, corporate reputation, cyber security, products liability, and catastrophe exposure, among other factors to assess overall risk.
  • Analyze micro and macro-economic factors and industry trends which may impact businesses in various industries.
  • Make decisions on company risk profiles and provide analysis and recommendations to the underwriting team.
  • Assist in development of risk rating models to balance actuarial loss projections and real-market pricing.
  • Review renewal applications and generate quotes and binders within our underwriting platforms.
  • Review and monitor loss activity for broad industry trends as well as for individual clients.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Currently pursuing a degree or diploma in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Analytical aptitude for compiling, evaluating and interpreting data.
  • Interest in or knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, emerging technologies, and the evolving digital risk landscape.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Adaptability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to resolve problems and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
