Job Summary
Mandate
Reporting to the Director, School of Health Information Science, the Marketing and Recruitment Specialist plans, develops, and delivers integrated marketing, recruitment, and event initiatives that support the visibility, reputation, and enrolment of HINF undergraduate and graduate programs.
This role has a strong focus on student recruitment and event-based engagement, leading the planning, promotion, and delivery of outreach activities such as information sessions, open houses, education fairs, and community events that connect prospective students with HINF programs. The position integrates marketing strategy, content development, and event execution to support enrolment growth and program awareness.
The role works closely with Faculty of Health communications and marketing staff and central university partners to ensure coordinated, aligned, and data-informed marketing and recruitment efforts.
Objectives
- Plan and execute targeted marketing and recruitment strategies that directly support program enrolment growth and yield outcomes
- Lead the planning, promotion, and delivery of recruitment events and outreach initiatives that effectively engage prospective students and stakeholders
- Develop and implement compelling, program-specific marketing campaigns and content across digital and print channels
- Monitor, analyze, and report on recruitment performance metrics to inform strategy and improve conversion outcomes
- Provide marketing and recruitment advice and insights to HINF leadership to support program positioning and growth
- Build and sustain strong relationships with prospective students, alumni, faculty, partners, and community stakeholders to enhance engagement and recruitment success
Working conditions may include occasional evening and weekend work and travel to support events and outreach activities, including moving event supplies up to 10kgs.
Job Requirements
This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, hospitality or a related field, plus a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, and/or student recruitment, including experience planning, promoting, and delivering events and outreach initiatives. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience developing and executing integrated marketing and recruitment campaigns across digital and print channels
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to create compelling, audience-focused content
- Strong event planning and coordination skills, including managing logistics, promotion, stakeholder engagement, and evaluation
- Experience planning and delivering recruitment-focused marketing initiatives that support enrolment growth
- Ability to analyze and interpret recruitment and marketing data to inform strategy and improve outcomes
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including prospective students and partners
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities
- Experience using digital marketing platforms and tools (e.g., Google Ads, Meta, social media platforms) and applying best practices
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment
- Experience in health informatics, health sciences, or technical academic programs, is an asset
- Experience in post-secondary student recruitment environments, is an asset
- Familiarity with UVic systems and processes, is an asset
