We are looking for Student Nurse Externs to support our medicine and surgical programs. Employment Status: Temporary Part‑Time | Duration: March 31, 2027 | Hours of Work: Rotating shifts, 8 or 12 hours, days/evenings/nights/weekends | Location: Humber River Health – Wilson Site | Labour Group: Non Union | Salary Range: $17.600 | Reporting Relationship: Manager, 13/14 floor Position Responsibilities
The Student Nurse Extern role is an unregulated healthcare worker providing direct personal support to Hospital Reception Health patients. Responsibilities include: Providing basic care (activities of daily living such as bathing, toileting, feeding, etc.) for up to 10 patients each. Working under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses according to department policies and procedures. Documenting activities of daily living (ADLs), such as intake and output, and relevant communication for patients. Reporting any clinical concerns to their direct supervisor immediately. Ensuring compliance with HRH training, privacy & confidentiality requirements, WHMIS, fire & safety, and hand hygiene modules. Not performing or being delegated any regulated acts (medication administration, vital signs, assessments, etc.). Qualifications
The successful candidate must meet the following qualifications: Currently enrolled in years 2‑4 of a nursing program of studies. Current CPR certification. Excellent communication skills. Exceptional customer service skills. Team player who works well with others. Ability to accurately and effectively communicate with the inter‑professional healthcare team. Demonstrates understanding of the use of technology. Ability to provide basic assistive care with frequent supervision and ongoing mentoring from a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse.
