Description About GBC

General Bank of Canada (“GBC”) is a Schedule I Chartered Bank headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, and part of the Wheaton Group. Since our entrepreneurial beginnings in the 1950s, we’ve grown into one of Canada’s fastest-growing small banks, delivering innovative financing solutions across the automotive, aviation, and commercial sectors.

At GBC, our values of Trust, Discipline, People First, and Innovation shape everything we do. Our agile, forward-thinking approach allows us to design smarter, more responsive banking solutions for a rapidly evolving digital world.

We’re proud to be certified as a Great Place to Work for seven consecutive years, reflecting our commitment to a culture where people feel supported, empowered, and inspired to do their best work.

Giving back is part of who we are. Since 1969, our long-standing partnership with United Way has supported meaningful volunteerism, fundraising, and community initiatives that make a lasting difference.

When you join General Bank of Canada, you become part of a team that’s not only shaping the future of banking but also strengthening the communities we serve. And yes, we genuinely love it here, and we think you will too.

The Opportunity

General Bank of Canada is seeking a

temporary, full-time Human Resources (HR) Strategic Advisor

to join our Human Resources team as a key contributor. As the Bank continues its strong growth trajectory, this role offers an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of our organization while contributing to strategic HR initiatives. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic environment, with significant potential for professional development, learning, and career growth.

The HR Strategic Advisor is a trusted partner to leaders and employees, helping to shape an exceptional employee and candidate experience while supporting the Bank's strategic objectives. We believe the most effective people solutions come from strong relationships, thoughtful judgment, and a deep understanding of the unique needs of our teams.

As a strategic advisor, you'll work closely with leaders to provide practical, tailored guidance that balances business needs with people-focused solutions. You'll be someone who is naturally curious, approachable, and able to build credibility through genuine relationships. While strong HR fundamentals are essential, success in this role comes from knowing when to move beyond standard processes and finding solutions that fit the situation, team, and culture.

Partnering closely with the HR team, you will support the design, enhancement and delivery of people-related programs that are modern, impactful, and aligned with the Bank's goals. You'll actively contribute to creating an environment where employees feel supported, leaders feel empowered, and HR is trusted as a valuable internal partner.
