Job Overview

We are looking for a casual Medical Radiation Technologist (R) who will utilize ionizing radiation for the purposes of diagnostic procedures (general x-ray, mammography and bone mineral density (BMD), evaluate images and data related to the procedures and the assessment of the condition of the patient before, during and after procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform digital radiography, mammography, and bone mineral density examinations as per facility protocols and College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) Standards of practice and Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) standards.

  • Participate in the Technologist Peer Review process and incorporate all findings into practice.

  • Adhere to the facility policies, procedures, and medical protocols.

Patient Examination:

  • Ensure appropriate delegations (when required), and appropriate knowledge, skills and judgement are in place for all examinations.

  • Ensure appropriate signage restricting access to patient exam room is posted.

  • Ensure correct patient, procedure and laterality identification is confirmed prior to start of the procedures.

  • Understand and execute the patient consent process including a) obtaining consent prior to start of the procedure and b) discontinue procedure at any time if patient withdraws consent and ensure consent withdrawal reason is documented on technical worksheet.

  • Stop procedure at any time if patient withdraws consent and document reason on the technologist worksheet.

  • Ensure that patient images display correct patient name, MRN, case number, and procedure date.

  • Ensure correct anatomy is displayed on image for accuracy of positioning.

  • Follow the Technologist Documentation policy including the documentation of technical impressions as per the medical protocols.

  • Ensure pregnancy status of appropriate patients is documented on technologist worksheet.

  • Ensure MRT ID is identified is displayed on each patient image.

  • Understand and facilitate the Chaperone policy as required.

  • Identify and document any unexpected and critical findings identified during procedures.

Infection Control:

  • Demonstrate competency in Routine IPAC Practices including hand and respiratory hygiene, procedure room infection control, medical gel usage and handling, sharps management, and selection and usage of personal protective equipment.

Radiation Protection:

  • Ensure the appropriate implementation of the Physician and Digital Markers Usage policy.

  • Ensure proper collimation is used at all times.

  • Ensure the appropriate implementation ALARA policy.

  • Ensure that exposure factors are be taken from the facility technique charts for any manual technique selection.

RIS-PACS:

  • Ensure the correct patient and procedure are selected from the worklist.

  • Ensure all technical documentation is scanned into correct patient case in the RIS.

  • Ensure completion of case in RIS and presence of all images in PACS.

  • Communicate errors to PACS Administrator in a timely fashion.

General:

  • Adhere to all registration and continuing medical education requirements as dictated by the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO).

  • Understand and execute the specific quality control test as stipulated under the Diagnostic Imaging Clinical Practice Guidelines, the Canadian Association of Radiologist - Mammography Accreditation Program (CAR-MAP), the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP).

Qualifications

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • 2-3 years of experience in digital radiography.

  • Experience with RIS-PACS systems.

  • Experience with Office 365.

Required Professional Designation/Certificate:

  • Valid certificate of registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO).
