Reporting to the Preconstruction Director, this is an opportunity for an experienced Project Coordinator or Field Engineer to develop skills in preconstruction, bid development for large-scale, complex civil infrastructure projects. This position is suited to individuals with 3‑5 years of field experience who wish to transition into an estimating role, gain bid experience, and later follow the project into operations once it is awarded and in active construction. What You'll Do Here
Pursue projects that include bid‑build, design‑build, and PPP projects ranging from bridges, tunnels, highways, to water & wastewater treatment. Work with estimate teams on bid preparations. Formulate all costs for tender submission – labour, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontracts. Perform quantity takeoff and update estimate software with quantities. Solicitate subcontractors/vendors. Compare subcontractor/vendor quotes. Insert quotes into estimate software. Assist with means and methods for project construction. Assist in the design‑build process and work with design teams. Analyze documents, drawings, specifications, proposals, and addendums in preparation for pricing. Obtain input from Operations staff as appropriate. Ensure accuracy and completeness of tender submissions. Drive Estimating process/procedure compliance and consistency. Perform post‑bid/post‑project analysis and facilitate associated learning and communication. Assist with prequalification submissions, RFQs, and RFIs as required. Incorporate/comply with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures. Build positive relationships and serve as key contact with clients, consultants, and key subcontractors. What You Bring to the Team
Post‑secondary education in Civil Engineering or Construction Management disciplines, or an acceptable combination of education and previous experience. A minimum of 3‑5 years working as a Field Engineer or Project Coordinator, ideally in project engineering or heavy civil construction environments. Knowledge of construction equipment & techniques, drawings & specifications, building materials, and applicable standards. Proficiency in construction‑industry software (e.g., Primavera Scheduling, AutoCAD, SAP). Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral. Flexibility to work in both field and office settings. Valid BC driver’s license. The expected pay range for this position is $70,000 – $85,000.
