Job descriptionPosition Summary Under the supervision of the Executive Director and in collaboration with the Grand Chiefs Office, this position is responsible for implementing economic development initiatives to enhance economic ventures for First Nations. This includes leading the development of a comprehensive economic strategy for the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs to advance First Nations priorities, strengthen economic sovereignty, identify investment opportunities, and support sustainable, long‑term growth.
Key Responsibilities
Research, identify, and assess economic development opportunities that align with AMC priorities.
Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of economic development plans and strategies.
Prepare funding applications, proposals and project reports for economic development.
Build and maintain relationships with industry partners, government agencies, and community organizations.
Develop, implement, and revise work plans as required, including planning, coordinating, facilitating, and reporting on activities and deliverables.
Liaise and network with First Nations and consultants to achieve work plan activities and initiatives.
Effectively manage time and conduct in‑person visits to First Nations.
Collaborate and work in partnership with First Nation organizations, professional economic development organizations, and business entities.
Prepare bimonthly reports, issue sheets, summary reports and other documentation for the Grand Chief and/or Chiefs Committees.
Plan, conduct and coordinate studies, reports, and develop briefing notes for economic development.
Provide support and contribute toward the planning, designing and implementing of projects.
Prepare timely briefing notes and speaking notes.
Facilitate and encourage public and private sector investments and/or partnerships that will enhance the economic viability of potential business opportunities.
Perform professional presentations or demonstrations of opportunities.
Conduct presentations directly to First Nation leadership in Manitoba.
Emphasize economic development projects' benefits to First Nations.
Develop a First Nation economic development project designed to generate revenue.
Ensure follow‑up on requests and inquiries in a timely manner.
Maintain professionalism, tact, diplomacy and sensitivity at all times.
Maintain accurate records, including sales call reports, expense reimbursement forms, billing invoices and other documentation.
Conduct front‑line assessments of activities, monitor progress and effectiveness, identify issues or opportunities, and provide timely updates and recommendations to the direct supervisor.
Maintain contracts and relationships with major accounts, outlets, wholesalers, vendors and other distributors/business partners.
Act as liaison to other business units for day‑to‑day administrative and operational issues.
Create training and development plans for sales representatives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Economic development or Business or Management degree/diploma, accounting designation or related equivalent experience.
Knowledge of research methods and techniques.
Knowledge of First Nations culture, history, treaty and inherent rights.
Demonstrated ability to provide analytical support while managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
Must possess strong presentation, writing and communication skills.
Ability to analyze and/or prepare financial statements and budgets.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively as part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Adherence to AMC policies and procedures with specific attention to attendance and professional ethics.
Possesses a valid Class 5F Driver’s License and vehicle; willing to work flexible hours and travel as required.
