The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for a Family Engagement Coordinator within the Children and Family Services Early Learning Program. Reporting to the Family Engagement Supervisor, the Family Engagement Coordinator supports the day-to-day coordination and delivery of family engagement programming and resources. This role focuses on developing culturally grounded, home-based programs that support Métis families to learn, connect, and engage together in exploring Métis culture. The Family Engagement Coordinator designs, implements, and evaluates safe, meaningful programs that meet the unique needs of Métis early learners and their families across Alberta. Working collaboratively with internal teams and community partners, the coordinator helps ensure programming is accessible, engaging, and reflective of Métis culture and values. The successful candidate will be an open-minded, team-oriented individual who is committed to innovative, family-centred programming that strengthens connections and supports early learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver culturally grounded, inclusive family engagement programs that reflect Métis identity, values, and ways of knowing.
  • Develop and contribute new program concepts and resource ideas, including home-based activities such as literacy programs, culture cards, and family kits.
  • Coordinate program timelines, deliverables, and distribution schedules to ensure programs are delivered efficiently and on time.
  • Work collaboratively with other coordinators and team members to co-deliver programs, share workload, and support each other in program implementation.
  • Monitor program outcomes and participant feedback and contribute to continuous improvement through evaluation and refinement of programming.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and enhancements to existing programs and resources.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with Métis families, communities, and internal and external partners.
  • Collaborate with the Child & Family Services communications team to support program-specific communications, resources, and materials.
  • Support logistical planning, materials management, and budget tracking related to family engagement initiatives.
  • Ensure programs and resources meet safety, accessibility, and quality standards.
  • Provide regular updates, documentation, and recommendations to the Family Engagement Supervisor and/or Manager.
  • Participate in and support the overall strategic direction of the Children and Family Services department and Otipemisiwak Métis Government.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge and understanding of Métis culture, values, history, and contemporary community contexts.
  • Strong program coordination and facilitation skills, with the ability to design, deliver, and support family engagement initiatives.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, contributing ideas, supporting co-workers, and sharing responsibility for program delivery.
  • Culturally responsive, compassionate, and respectful approach when working with Métis families, communities, and colleagues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal teams and external community partners.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and database applications. Meticulous records maintenance skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong sense of ethics, with the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including professional email etiquette and the ability to contribute to clear program documentation, reports, and resource materials.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Early Learning, Human or Social Services, or related field (equivalent experiences will be considered).
  • Two to three years’ experience in a similar role is an asset.
  • Experience developing and coordinating programs, resources, or initiatives from concept through implementation and evaluation.
  • Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Position is based in Edmonton; in-office presence is required.
  • Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
  • Must be willing to travel within Alberta and work irregular hours, on occasion, as required.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Acceptable attainment of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to work for the Otipemisiwak Métis Government under its newly ratified Constitution and be an instrumental part of the largest Indigenous Government in Canada as it rapidly grows and develops.
  • An opportunity to learn about Métis culture, history, and art.
  • Meaningful work in a fun and supportive work environment.
  • Training and professional development opportunities.
  • A comprehensive benefit package and employer contributions to Pension Plan.
  • Generous time off policies.
