Job description
Join our Agency as an In-House Legal Counsel, supporting Indigenous rights in the East Region. Your legal acumen will enhance cultural identity and facilitate healing through innovative solutions.
In this full-time permanent position, you'll report to the Legal Services Manager, guiding Agency staff under the CYFSA and relevant family laws. The role emphasizes alternative strategies over traditional legal pathways to maintain relationships within the community, always prioritizing the well-being of children and families.
Key Responsibilities: • Offer legal advice and consult on CYFSA implementation • Represent the Agency in family courts and tribunals • Draft and review legal documents including pleadings • Prepare staff for court roles and witness testimony • Negotiate settlements and advocate for indigenous practices
Requirements: • LL.B. or Juris Doctor with 2-3 years in family law litigation • Must be a member of the Law Society of Ontario • Familiarity with Child Welfare law beneficial • Open to a flexible schedule including weekends • Valid driver’s license and liability insurance are essential
