The Role
As the Senior Superintendent, you will lead all field operations related to major concrete and civil construction activities on a large-scale infrastructure project.
You will oversee Superintendents, General Foremen, subcontractors, and field crews while ensuring all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with schedule, quality, and productivity targets.
This role requires a strong technical understanding of heavy civil concrete construction, including complex form work systems, structural sequencing, crane coordination, pours, and large crew management.
The position is based on Vancouver Island and involves overnight projects operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all on-site construction activities for major heavy civil concrete scopes
- Oversee structural concrete, form work, reinforcing steel, placement, and sequencing operations
- Manage Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, and large self-perform field crews
- Ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with schedule milestones
- Coordinate construction logistics, crane activities, equipment, manpower, and subcontractor scheduling
- Drive productivity, quality control, and field execution performance
- Lead daily planning meetings, safety meetings, and coordination sessions
- Monitor project progress and proactively resolve construction challenges
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, engineers, and operations leadership
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and safety regulations
- Support schedule planning, look-ahead coordination, and recovery planning when required
- Maintain strong communication with clients, consultants, and project stakeholders
Who You Are
- 10+ years of Superintendent experience within heavy civil construction
- Strong experience delivering:
- Large-scale structural concrete projects
- Heavy civil infrastructure projects
- Complex concrete form work operations
- Bridges, marine, transit, or major infrastructure assignments
- Proven ability to lead large crews and complex field operations
- Strong understanding of concrete sequencing, structural coordination, and heavy civil construction methodologies
- Experience working on technically demanding, schedule-driven projects
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Safety-focused with a strong understanding of BC construction safety standards
- Comfortable working overnight shifts and demanding project schedules
- Highly organized, accountable, and solutions-oriented
- Engineering or technical construction background is considered an asset
