The Ministry of Education, Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch, Brantford Campus (W. Ross Macdonald School) operates school/student lodging programs with the tradition and reputation for meeting the academic, personal, social, emotional, and developmental needs of the individual children.

Do you have experience preparing a large quantity of hot foods using commercial cooking methods and equipment and meeting individual special and multi-restriction diets? Are you an experienced Cook seeking regularly scheduled hours primarily during weekdays? If so, consider bringing your culinary expertise to this position where your primary role will be to prepare, cook and serve nutritious and appetizing meals.

About the job

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role you will:

• Prepare a wide variety of foods through standard volume commercial cooking methods, using commercial cooking equipment, ensuring adherence to prescribed menus, work schedules and dietary requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness of food services area, equipment/utensils.
• Assist in the receiving and stocking of food items.
• Assist with inventory of supplies.
• Perform other duties related to the operation of a large school cafeteria.

What you bring to the team


Knowledge and Experience:

• You have thorough knowledge of food preparation, storage techniques/procedures and proper kitchen equipment operations, normally acquired through completion of a post-secondary education in chef/cook training course or related work experience.
• Completed Food Handlers Certificate or willingness to obtain.
• You have demonstrated experience cooking large quantity of hot foods, as well as experience in the preparation of foods for individuals with special multi-restriction dietary needs.
• You have experience operating commercial/institutional food preparation equipment.
• You know nutritional principles to assist in planning menus.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• You have excellent communication skills including the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
• You have the ability to work independently and as a team member.

Physical Work

• You have the ability to work shifts and perform physical work.
