Physician Assistant
Department: General Emergency – Oshawa

Schedule: Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends – 8 & 12 Hour Shifts (Subject to Change)

Duties and Responsibilities
- Obtain health and social histories
- Conduct physical assessments and interpret findings
- Activate medical directives and complete preliminary interpretations of necessary diagnostic tests including but not limited to ECGs, laboratory tests, and diagnostic imaging
- Perform procedures such as ECG, casting, suturing, application of orthopedic devices, slit lamp examination, measurement of intraocular pressure, visual acuity
- Formulate treatment plans and support appropriate connections to consultants, allied health, outpatient clinics, and support any other services/special needs for the patient
- Document patient encounters
- Support physicians with health care technology and applications such as Connecting Ontario and hospital applications including the Clinical Information System, Order Set repository, and bedside ultrasound
Qualifications
- Registration in good standing as a Physician Assistant with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
- Current membership in good standing with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA) and/or NCCPA required
- Certified or eligible for certification through the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or United States (NCCPA) required
- Graduate of MOHLTC‑approved program including the Canadian Forces Physician Assistant Training Program, Graduate of a Canadian or American Physician Assistant Training Program, or trained International Medical Graduate
- Flexible with superior organization skills and the ability to work efficiently to prioritize multiple, competing tasks in a fast‑paced dynamic environment
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, make decisions and take initiative while working with confidential patient information and responding to patient inquiries
- Superior work ethic, professionalism and reliability; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer/client service
- Superior written/oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal and relationship‑building skills; ability to effectively convey factual information and detailed explanations
- Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools, and a commitment to the use of these in support of providing the best healthcare experience possible to our patients
