Job Title: Shop ForemanJob DescriptionThe Shop Foreman serves as a working foreman and supervisor, leading daily shop operations while actively participating in furnace and machine building activities. Approximately 70% of the role involves hands-on fabrication, assembly, and completion of vacuum furnace builds, with the remaining time focused on supervising and coordinating a team of skilled tradespeople. This position plays a key leadership role within the furnace manufacturing team, ensuring high-quality workmanship, safe operations, and efficient production.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on leadership and supervision of the shop, overseeing daily operations and workflow.
- Manage and coordinate day-to-day shop tasks to ensure productivity, efficiency, and adherence to production schedules.
- Oversee and support a team of 8–10 tradespeople, including machine builders, welders/fabricators, a lead millwright, and assemblers.
- Act as a key leader within the furnace manufacturing team, collaborating with production, engineering, sales, and customer service personnel.
- Perform fabrication, assembly, and completion of all vacuum furnace builds as an experienced, hands-on machine builder.
- Assemble and troubleshoot large machinery, ensuring proper function and resolving issues in a timely manner.
- Ensure a high level of quality, safety, and operational effectiveness across all shop activities.
- Enforce company safety policies and regulatory requirements, promoting a strong safety culture in the shop.
- Work closely with the General Manager or designate to align shop priorities with broader business objectives.
- Contribute to efficient shop operations through effective scheduling, task allocation, and workflow improvements.
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to guide fabrication, assembly, and installation work.
- Develop and maintain expertise in industrial vacuum equipment and apply this knowledge to daily operations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and encourage best practices among team members.
Essential Skills- 10+ years of machine building or manufacturing experience.
- 3–5+ years of supervision experience in a shop or manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience assembling and troubleshooting large machinery.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Hands-on experience in fabrication and welding.
- Proven capability in machine building, assembly, and installation.
- Solid understanding of furnace and vacuum equipment manufacturing processes.
- Ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities in a busy shop.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational effectiveness.
- Effective leadership and communication skills for guiding a diverse trades team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- 433A trade qualification.
- FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding) ticket.
- SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) ticket.
- GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) ticket.
- Experience working with industrial vacuum equipment.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams such as engineering, production, sales, and customer service.
- Ability to identify and implement workflow and process improvements in a shop environment.

This is a full-time, day-shift position, working Monday to Friday from 8:00 . to 4:30 . The role is based in a shop environment focused on furnace and large machinery manufacturing, involving hands-on fabrication, welding, assembly, and installation work. You will work closely with a team of machine builders, welders/fabricators, a lead millwright, and assemblers, using industrial tools and equipment typical of a heavy manufacturing and fabrication setting. The environment emphasizes safety, quality, and collaboration, with structured hours that support a stable work-life routine.
