Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.
About the role
We're looking for an Intermediate or Senior Underwriter to join our Commercial Lines P&C team!
This full-time hybrid position is available in our London, Mississauga, 700 University Ave offices and would require you to be in office two (2) days per week.
What you'll do here:
Assessing, evaluating, and negotiating moderate to complex risks.
Implementing effective pricing and underwriting strategies that align with company guidelines and your personal underwriting authority limits.
Quoting, negotiating, selling, and authorizing the acceptance of new business, renewals, and endorsements to develop and retain profitable business within your authority level.
Building cooperative relationships with brokers to identify and develop sales opportunities,
Participating in regular broker visits, industry functions, and marketing events to nurture strong broker relationships.
Arranging reinsurance when necessary.
Utilizing our computer system for policy inquiries, electronic filing, and handling underwriting and rating transactions.
Making recommendations to improve departmental processes and enhance efficiency.
What you bring to the table:
Minimum 3 years of Commercial Lines underwriting experience for Intermediate and minimum 5 years for Senior level required
Candidates with Commercial Lines P&C experience will be prioritized
Completion of CIP designation, or active progress towards it, is considered a valuable asset
Strong track record of developing, mentoring and coaching teammates
Proven capability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with brokers
Great communication skills (both written and verbal)
Strong negotiating skills complemented by a solid understanding of business strategy
Strong analytical and technical experience
Initiative-driven, with the ability to perform well under pressure
Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer tools
No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada
