The Role We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Hydro Structural Group with 10+ years of experience in the planning and design of water resource infrastructure, hydroelectric projects, and heavy civil construction. You will work with our well‑established multidisciplinary team across Canada and the USA. In this role, you’ll work in a multidisciplinary team environment to prepare and review civil/structural engineering designs and related documents. The technical work includes feasibility studies, engineering designs, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, and carrying out structural inspections primarily for rehabilitation and upgrades to water‑retaining structures, hydroelectric facilities, and new hydroelectric developments in Canada and the USA. You will work on assigned projects alongside Senior Engineers and Project Managers while collaborating with engineers and designers from various disciplines. You will help ensure projects are completed within allotted schedules and budgets and up to high‑quality standards.
Candidates can expect to take part in a wide variety of project work including:
Management of structural design on multi‑discipline projects from proposal to completion, including budgets and schedules.
Structural design of small to large water resource and hydroelectric projects.
Preparing proposals, tender documents, construction documents, drawings, and technical reports.
Leading Construction Administration Services and managing project involvement during active construction.
Mentoring junior staff and managing support personnel as required.
Key Responsibilities
Site inspections and condition assessments of existing water‑retaining and conveyance structures.
Remediation and rehabilitation of hydroelectric facilities and flow control structures.
Concept and preliminary design of structures and associated civil infrastructure.
Construction administration and construction support, including submittal review.
Preparation and review of project deliverables: reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
Analyzing engineering reports, technical procedures, code/standards, and regulations.
Preparing technical reports and project correspondence.
Advising project teams and department managers of progress, challenges, and issues.
Leading proposal preparation.
Participating in mentorship and professional development.
Coordinating with consultants and vendors as required.
Helping maintain strong client relationships.
About You We’re looking for an applicant with a strong combination of qualifications and experience. Highlights include:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering specializing in structural design (Master’s or PhD an asset).
Licensed Professional Engineer in Canada.
Minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience, preferably in consulting, including:
technical analysis, code reviews, calculations, FEA, and technical writing
project management (budget tracking, schedules, progress reports)
experience with water resource or hydroelectric heavy civil projects and knowledge of the Canadian Dam Association (CDA) Dam Safety Guidelines
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; French is an asset.
Ability to periodically travel to project sites for inspections, data collection, construction review, and meetings.
Highly proactive with strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
Adaptability to work on diverse projects across regions.
Valid driver’s license and ability/willingness to undergo security checks.
Location & Work Arrangement This position is available in Mississauga, Winnipeg, or Vancouver. Remote or flexible work arrangements may be considered depending on the candidate and project needs.
The expected salary range for candidates based in the Mississauga or Vancouver office is $120,000 to $170,000, depending on experience and qualifications. The salary range mentioned in this job description is a guide. The final compensation offered may vary based on a variety of factors, including candidate’s experience, skills and location.
