Summary Reporting to the Estimating Manager, you will prepare detailed cost estimates using estimating software of the full project scope including labour, equipment, raw materials, purchased equipment and subcontractors. Tender closings are to meet all submission deadlines.
Primary Scope Of Role Estimating & Tender Preparation
Accurately interpret and comprehend tender drawings and specifications for all projects up to $1 Billion
Perform and/or direct quantity take-offs from tender drawings
Consistently and insightfully formulate all tender costs (labour, material, equipment, subcontractors)
Cost out potential scope changes/additional costs/claims
Prepare initial tender schedule for handoff to field staff
Prepare bid bond and insurance request forms
Tender Management & Delivery
Successfully and independently lead Design‑Build projects through the tender stage
Chair meetings and set project goals
Present project scope, staging, timing, risks, constraints, and cost‑saving opportunities
Close tenders (reviews, sub‑proposal analysis)
Accountable for accuracy of tender submissions
Maintain files and correspondence on active tenders
Stakeholder Communication & Project Support
Customer follow‑up on submitted tenders/proposals
Communicate with field staff and clients
Provide technical support to field staff
Monitor active projects and provide job cost evaluations to management
Leadership, Process & Team Development
Mentorship of junior employees
Assist in maintaining estimating department policies, procedures, and standards
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Position Requirements
University Degree – Civil Engineering or College Graduate – Civil Technology preferred.
Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in the construction industry, with 7+ years’ experience in estimating.
Direct experience in Design‑Build estimates and team processes.
Experience using a commercial bidding platform (In Eight Estimate preferable)
Capable of reading and understanding construction drawings and documents.
Computer proficiency – proficiency in an estimating package is a must, and Word and Excel would be an asset.
Thorough understanding OPSS and CDED.
Results‑driven with an ability to deliver success in a fast‑paced environment.
Outcome focused, critical thinker with the ability to analyze and visualize to ensure continuous improvement across our business.
Ability to connect and interact with people to seek different perspectives.
Valid driver’s license.
Experience with MTO contracts and/or municipal works.
What We Offer
Expected Base Salary: $100,000 – $160,000.00 per year. The actual base salary will depend on several factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and work location.
