Senior Signaling Engineer , you will be a key technical leader within WSP’s Rail & Transit team, helping shape safe, reliable, and innovative rail systems across Canada. Reporting to the Manager, Rail Systems Engineering, you will collaborate with Chief Engineers, technical specialists, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex signalling solutions for commuter rail, subway, light rail, and heavy rail projects.
In this senior role, you will apply your transferable skills to define engineering processes, develop execution plans, mentor junior team members, and serve as the technical lead on multiple projects. You will be supported by leadership to grow your professional capabilities and strengthen your impact as a leader in a consulting environment.
Your Impact
Lead the development and analysis of rail signaling systems.
Review and approve signaling calculations, drawings, specifications, procurement documents, and design packages for construction and implementation.
Provide detailed technical checks of signaling and circuit designs produced by internal teams and third‑party consultants.
Develop compliant signaling schemes aligned with industry standards, codes, client specifications, and rail operating rules.
Serve as a technical authority across projects, ensuring quality, safety, and consistency of signaling designs.
Mentor and guide junior engineers and specialists, supporting their technical and professional development.
Engage with clients to communicate technical concepts clearly and resolve complex engineering challenges.
Plan and execute project work while balancing scope, schedule, budget, and resource requirements.
The Skills That Set You Apart
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed in Ontario or eligible for registration or Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT).
Minimum 10 years of experience in Rail Systems Engineering or equivalent signalling disciplines.
Demonstrated expertise in conventional signalling systems, including braking calculations, control tables, schematics, and phasing plans.
Knowledge of Computer‑Based Train Control is an asset.
Strong working knowledge of applicable rail industry codes, standards, and operating rules.
Proven ability to lead technical teams in a consulting environment.
PMP certification is considered an asset.
Compensation AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $135,200 – $179,100
MB & ON: $123,300 – $169,800
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $122,100 – $162,200
