The Trade & Working Capital Intern will support in providing and executing the appropriate trade & working capital solution for clients. You will contribute to the overall success of Trade & Working Capital Solutions in ensuring specific client pitches, transactions, plans, initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the overall business strategies and objectives of Global Transaction Banking. You will ensure that all activities conducted follow governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Work closely with Director & Head and Associate Directors, Trade & Working Capital Solutions Specialist and act as a subject matter expert. Champion a client-focused culture to develop the most appropriate solution that enhances the overall client relationship and leverage internal and external stakeholder relationships, systems and knowledge (e.g., legal, credit, operations). Collaborate with Director & Head and Associate Directors, Trade & Working Capital Solutions to provide solutions to clients across Canada and the US. Contribute to the clients’ and GTB business goals by providing the right solution that retains and increases profitability while maintaining an acceptable level of risk. Identify market trends with TMO and GBM RM to drive new opportunities, prepare and deliver client pitches, structure and analyze new transactions. Grow and expand existing programs, handle customer requests for new issuances of Trade and Working Capital instruments, amendments of existing credit facilities, complete risk assessments and prepare credit presentations/recommendations. Review Trade & Working Capital product terms and credit/legal documentation with internal and external Legal Counsel, culminating in the closing of transactions. Lead end-to-end product onboarding of new clients by coordinating with internal partners (TMO, Corporate Banking, GRM, Execution, Operations, GBM Onboarding). Identify and provide risk mitigation strategies so that the risk of any Trade & Working Capital Solution remains within the Bank’s risk appetite and culture. Pursue effective and efficient operations in line with Scotiabank’s Values and Code of Conduct, ensuring day-to-day business controls meet obligations related to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. You are currently enrolled in post-secondary education. You love to learn and envision yourself working for an international organization that heavily invests in your future. You enjoy being involved in extracurricular activities such as conferences, clubs, competitions, and/or hackathons. You have proven negotiation, active listening, analytical and problem-solving skills. You have concern and regard for managing operational and enterprise risk. You come with experience in credit analysis, risk assessment, and structuring. You have excellent written and oral communication skills. You have an understanding of the cross-border nature of trade & working capital solutions. You are interested in a client-facing role with ongoing deliverables and tight deadlines.
