Job description
Description:

This position requires a candidate who can apply professional engineering skills and practices to design and commission telecommunication networks systems and physical telecom infrastructure. The successful candidate must have previous experience designing or working with physical engineering design elements such as rack space, power, and cabling. They must be able to analyze requirements for TCP/IP-based network and telecommunications systems utilized at TC Energy's industrial field facilities, and generate engineering designs for the Corporate, SCADA, and Control System networks at those facilities. Knowledge of RS-232 serial protocols is an asset, as is some basic understanding of control system end devices such as RTU's, PLC's, HMI's, etc.

The candidate must be familiar with a variety of the concepts, practices, and procedures involved when working on designs for industrial field facilities. Previous experience working in the field is desired. They must be able to rely on their extensive experience and knowledge to perform a variety of tasks from design to remote commissioning. This position works with various groups to assess requirements and translate those requirements into cost-effective designs that meet regulatory requirements. The candidate must possess good communications skills and exhibit strong skills in customer service and leadership.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

● Engineering Design: Create designs for network and telecommunication systems at industrial field sites (e.g., meter and compressor stations).

● Documentation: Prepare "Issued for Design" (IFD) or "Issued for Construction" (IFC) packages by creating original drawings or marking up existing ones.

● Vendor Management: Hand off markups to external engineering firms to complete and authenticate, then review the returned work for accuracy before implementation.

Candidate Profile & Experience:

● Experience Level: 5 to 10 years of experience, aiming for a intermediate level.

● Education: Background in Electrical or Telecom Engineering.

● Designations: A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is preferred but not mandatory. The role primarily provides engineering oversight.

● Prior experience at energy companies or industrial field sites is highly valued. It is preferred to have an electrical engineer with industrial controls experience (working with instrumentation, PLCs, and RTUs) who can be taught telecom, rather than a pure IT network engineer.
