Occupational Therapist – Core Clinical Services

LOCATION: Etobicoke/North York, ON

POSITION TYPE: Full-time, regular (37.5 hours/week)

POSTING CLOSING DATE: Open until filled

Lumenus Autism Core Clinical Services is hiring a full-time regular Occupational Therapist (OT) to join the Lumenus Autism Core Clinical Services team. Services are primarily delivered to children diagnosed with ASD (2-14 years old). Services are delivered in person at both Etobicoke & North York locations. The Occupational Therapist (OT) will provide assessment and intervention services for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or other developmental or motor delays. The Occupational Therapist will support the development of functional skills that promote independence in daily living, learning, socialization, and play for participation at home, school, and the community. Additionally, the OT will collaborate with families and other professionals to develop individualized intervention plans that address sensory processing, self‑regulation, motor development, and adaptive functioning.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment / Treatment / Intervention / Parent Training

  • Conduct formal and informal assessments evaluating sensory processing, fine and gross motor development, self‑care and daily living skills, emotional regulation, executive functioning, play and social participation
  • Develop individualized and measurable treatment goals and plans
  • Provide evidence‑based occupational therapy interventions for children and youth with ASD
  • Deliver services in individual and small group formats
  • Provide recommendations and materials to support staff involved with the child’s treatment plan
  • Provide recommendations for supports, sensory strategies, and adaptive equipment for use in other environments
  • Work collaboratively with other interdisciplinary team members including Registered Behaviour Analysts, Speech & Language Pathologists, ABA Instructors, Communicative Disorders Assistants, as well as other professionals in the child/youth’s care team
  • Provide caregiver coaching and training to support skill generalization across environments
  • Provide consultations to families, ABA program, and SLP program
  • Review assessment findings with the client’s family and service team
  • Provide modeling of therapeutic strategies to support Occupational Therapist Assistant
  • Oversee OTA implementation of treatment goals
  • Maintain a safe work environment
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned

Service Coordination and Referral

  • When necessary and with parental consent, communicate with other persons working with the child and/or family
  • When necessary and with parental consent, support referrals to outside professionals
  • Participate in meetings as necessary for intake, transition to school, etc.

Administration

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records, statistics and client information on the client information system (e.g., TREAT); including assessment reports, progress notes, treatment plans, discharge summaries
  • Complete reports and statistics as necessary
  • Ensure service targets are met (reports completed, clients served, direct service hours and positive clinical outcomes for clients)Participate in quality improvement programs and outreach activities
  • Promote occupational therapy services and programs within the community
  • Assist in the maintenance and selection of equipment and supplies
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, agency meetings, and committees
  • Complete incident reports as needed in a timely manner
  • Follow relevant program evaluation processes that ensure the program is meeting expected outcomes
  • Ensure documentation meets professional and regulatory standards
  • Comply with agency policies, procedures, and practices
  • Perform designated administrative duties

Professional Development

  • Contribute to a working environment conducive to personal and professional growth
  • Participate in continuing education programs as well as reading and reviewing materials relevant to the delivery of occupational therapy services
  • Plan, develop, implement and participate in educational programs for clients, caregivers, groups, and agencies
  • Participate in professional memberships and groups as appropriate

Qualifications / Experience / Skills

  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registration in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists
  • 2 years’ experience in a related clinical setting
  • Experience working with children and youth with autism spectrum disorder and developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge and application of the Occupational Therapy framework, philosophy and theory, interpretation of standardized and non‑standardized assessments, knowledge of development (typical/non‑typical), of augmentative communication/writing assessments, and of appropriate OT intervention strategies and techniques
  • Knowledge of sensory processing, motor development, and adaptive functioning
  • Well‑developed communication skills including verbal, non‑verbal, presentation and listening skills
  • Experience supporting children and youth with sensory processing difficulties
  • Strong collaboration, communication and coaching skills
  • Strong problem‑solving and organizational skills
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and reliable vehicle, or appropriate transportation
