Our Role:

The Quality & Process Specialist will be based in Peterborough and will support the Fuel Manufacturing Group by providing expertise in Quality Assurance, process qualification, and optimization to drive continuous improvement in order to align with quality and business growth objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Quality Assurance:
    • Perform responsibilities documented in the QA Program Policies & Procedures both at the Fuel Operations level and Business Management System level.
    • Develop and maintain general knowledge of existing and proposed regulations. Provide technical guidance to employees and management.
    • Define employee training needs and select training tools. Develop, deliver, or coordinate training and/or participate in the selection of qualified individuals to deliver training and verify delivery of training as per the training program.
    • Support QA programs and record keeping systems (i.e. Gensuite, Billing Sytem, MLR, JDE Learning Management System) for worker training, routine tasks, worker concerns, action items and event reporting.
    • Participate in Material Review Boards and investigations addressing control of Non conforming product.
    • Support the Management of Change program for the Fuel Assembly by reviewing Fuel Assembly Change Control Notices and ensuring QA compliance to related actions are completed as per program requirements.
    • Participate in the issue resolution process related to quality investigations; develop detailed reports based on root cause analysis, recommend solutions, assist in implementation of corrective actions, follow-up where required.
    • Active involvement and/or leadership of various committees on-site (i.e. Policy Committee, Workplace Safety Committee, Ergonomics Committee).
    • Assist with business proposals by collecting relevant QA information.
    • Interface effectively with all levels within the company as well as organizations outside of the business (i.e. Regulators).
    • Assist with the maintenance of QA program software.
    • Promote various safety initiatives and demonstrate a “safety first” mindset.
    • Provide QA Orientation training for all new hires and ensure the QA Orientation program is kept up-to-date.
  • Project & Continuous Process Improvement:
    • Support fuel operations projects by ensuring alignment of qualification plans with customer requirements and company objectives.
    • Assist project leads in qualifying new and existing processes to ensure compliance with quality standards & the change management program.
    • Identify & contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reliability, and product quality.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business growth through operational excellence.
    • Collect and analyze process data to support decision-making and qualification activities.
    • Provide technical guidance and documentation for process improvements and qualifications
  • Development Activities:
    • Develop & Analyze data trends to identify areas for quality improvement across multiple processes.
    • Develop and implement quality dashboards to monitor key performance metrics. Continuously refine dashboards and tools to improve accuracy and usability.
    • Utilize AI-driven tools to enhance quality/process control & improvement initiatives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI solutions into manufacturing processes.
    • Ensure AI-based tools align with business quality and compliance requirements & provide training and support for teams using AI-driven quality improvement tools.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • May be required to provide supervisory oversight during specific projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
    • Coordinates team activities, supporting project execution, and ensuring that quality and process control measures are effectively implemented.
    • Acts as a point of escalation for quality-related issues, providing direction and support to project teams as needed.
  • Additional Duties, as required:
    • Conduct internal audits and self-assessments for the site, and for other BWXT sites.
    • Support the site regulatory requirements under the CSNC operating license, including but not limited to:
      • Inspections;
      • Licensed activity quality assurance program;
      • Support site's emergency response team;
      • Support and develop other site programs and initiatives as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in a related field or minimum 5 years direct QA experience. Post secondary education in engineering preferred.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic team player with excellent written and verbal Communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable QA regulations and standards.
  • Proven analytical ability.
  • Knowledge of Canada Labour Code Part II.
  • Hands-on problem solver.
  • Proficient with MS Office software.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 & CSA N299 standards.
  • Prior experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Must be available for on-call periods.
  • Strong decision-making skills.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $85,000 and $126,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
