Job Summary
The Community and Field Liaison is an integral part of the Field Education Office in the School of Social Work. This position will be involved in all aspects of recruitment and marketing of the program to prospective students and local (Okanagan Valley) community agencies that provide field education opportunities. Additionally this role is a liaison between current students their field education placements and the School of Social Work.

As Field Liaison this role provides grade recommendation (pass/fail) through the Field Education Coordinator to the Director School of Social Work as part of their interaction with each student and agency during a placement. This role ensures that agency policies and preferences are taken into consideration when placing and managing students for their field education placement.

Organizational Status
Reports to the Director of the School of Social Work. On matters related to Field Education the Community and Field Liaison reports to the Field Education Coordinator.
Interacts and communicates with faculty members students staff external professional social work agencies and departmental offices of the Faculty of Health and Social Development and other UBC and external academic and administrative units as required.

Work Performed
Performs Field Education Liaison activities by:

- Acting as a liaison between students and agencies to ensure participant understanding regarding processes requirements and expectations.
- Performing site visitations ensuring completion of check-in meetings and documenting relevant findings to assist in the evaluation of students in field education placements.
- Assisting the Field Education Coordinator on triaging and resolving concerns or challenges related to agency relations or obtaining of placements
- Attending integrative seminars with the goal of linking agency policy and experiences to the seminar course contributing to discussion and activities. Makes recommendations to the Field Education Coordinator for applying changes.
- Synthesizing the information from the integrated seminars and field visits and bringing it to the School Field Education Committee for planning of next steps.

Provides Communications for the School of Social Work by:

- Recruiting students for the MSW program by developing and delivering recruitment presentations both online as webcasts and in-person to prospective students.
- Maintaining a communication pathway from community to students in regards to events jobs and other resources by way of social media platforms and student communiques.
- Liaising with the student union and coordinating and providing guidance on School of Social Work student meetings and student led initiatives.
- Ensuring student manuals forms and other communications materials are up to date by consulting with relevant contributors and ensuring appropriate UBC branding is applied
- Ensuring exit surveys are distributed and analyzed to ensure maximum impact on informing administrative decisions. Providing summaries and identify trends as needed
- Gathering content preparing and distributing School newsletter. Building and maintaining newsletter contact database.
- Coordinating presentations by the School to community members for professional development credits; coordinating special presentations for students.

Performs other related duties by:

- Participating in School of Social Work committees related to yearly events such as Welcome Orientation Graduation Awards Ceremonies etc.
- Performing other related duties as required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Exercises judgement in the writing of educational and presentation materials and in overseeing the delivery of educational program support services. Must exercise tact and diplomacy in interacting with students staff alumni and faculty from the UBC Okanagan campus staff to community organizations and individual community members.

Errors in judgement or the disclosure of confidential information could result in public consequences negatively affecting the reputation of the School of Social Work and/or resulting in embarrassment to the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus.

Failure to maintain positive relationships with agencies poorly reflects upon the Schools reputation in the community. Failure to provide accurate timely information to prospective students could dissuade students from applying to the program.

Supervision Received
Reports to the Director of the School of Social Work. On matters related to Field Education the Community and Field Liaison reports to the Field Education Coordinator.

Supervision Given
Provide additional field education supervision to students in cases where students do not have access to a Field Educator with a M.S.W. providing supervision at the agency. This includes providing the guidance and support students require to develop their graduate clinical social work skills and application of curriculum which a student may not be receiving from their direct supervisor at their placement.
May manage student staff/staff and be responsible for hiring discipline evaluation and termination.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of one to two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing ones own awareness knowledge and skills related to equity diversity and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.

Masters degree in Social Work preferred.

Minimum of one year experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

A minimum of two years of related agency experience preferably in the British Columbia Interior Region preferred

Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office suite at an intermediate level.
