to join our team in either the

Burnaby, Victoria, Whitehorse,

offices. In this role you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting and challenging projects across North America, with a focus on Canada. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent technical and interpersonal skills to join our talented team in delivering outstanding service and innovation to our clients.

About the role As a Regulatory and Permitting Specialist, you will lead the day-to-day delivery of integrated environmental assessment (EA) and permitting scopes on mining and major projects, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs and supporting engagement with regulators and stakeholders. You will manage and coordinate EA and permitting activities from early planning through submission, regulator review, and approval, working closely with multidisciplinary teams, senior technical leads, and project managers.

This role provides technical leadership for EA and permitting delivery, with junior staff providing drafting and coordination support under your direction. The role is delivery‑focused, with responsibility for maintaining schedules, tracking issues and commitments, and ensuring high‑quality, regulator‑ready submissions. You will also support proposal development and early project planning activities that contribute to securing larger, EA‑led regulatory opportunities, while continuing to build your own technical depth and leadership capability.

Most projects are supported by a dedicated project manager and/or project controller, allowing you to focus on technical delivery, coordination, and quality.

Specific tasks may include

Leading day-to-day execution of EA and permitting scopes, including EA planning and oversight of EA document development, permit identification and sequencing, integration of inputs from environmental and social disciplines and application drafting and compilation as needed.

Directing multidisciplinary teams (e.g., air quality, noise, water quality, hydrogeology, vegetation, wildlife, fish and fish habitat, socioeconomics, archaeology) and leading the coordination of their inputs to ensure clear roles, timely contributions, and consistent document quality.

Applying technical expertise to lead or contribute to the development of EA content, including authoring key sections where senior judgment, integration across disciplines, or regulatory interpretation is required.

Managing EA and permitting review cycles, including adequacy determinations, information request tracking and responses, regulator comments, revision control, and resubmissions.

Overseeing and validating permits and approvals registers, commitments logs, conditions registers, and compliance‑related actions; supporting transition from EA approval to permitting and implementation.

Supporting regulator, Indigenous Group, and stakeholder engagement by preparing meeting materials, correspondence, consultation summaries, and issue logs; participating in meetings as appropriate.

Determining EA submission, adequacy, and resubmission readiness in coordination with senior team members and project managers.

Working closely with project managers to forecast schedules, manage risks, and elevate issues early where they may affect approvals or delivery.

Providing coaching, technical review, and oversight to junior staff to support quality, consistency, and skill development.

Contributing to proposals and business development efforts, particularly supporting large, EA‑led regulatory pursuits through scope development, methodology, schedules, and project experience summaries.

Applying Ausenco QA/QC, health and safety, and project delivery standards to all work products.

Success in this role looks like high‑quality EA and permitting submissions, efficient and well‑managed regulator review cycles, clear issue identification and resolution, on‑time approvals, strong collaboration with project teams, and high client satisfaction.

About you

A university degree in natural sciences, resource management, engineering, business, or related discipline.

8+ years of relevant professional experience in Canada, including leading EA and/or permitting tasks or workstreams for mining or major projects, including directing junior staff.

Sufficient technical depth in one or more environmental disciplines to author and critically review EA content, including interpreting technical inputs and translating them into defensible regulatory documentation.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate multidisciplinary inputs and deliver high‑quality documentation on schedule.

Experience managing submissions through regulator review cycles, including information request tracking, comment resolution, revision control.

Working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation and typical EA and permitting workflows.

Comfortable communicating with regulators, Indigenous Groups, and stakeholders in a professional and organized manner.

Experience mentoring junior staff and reviewing technical drafts.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clear, defensible documentation.

Professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio., P.Eng.) is an asset.
