We are currently seeking either:
- a Licensed Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) -433A (Ontario), OR
- a candidate with a minimum of 5 years of progressive and relevant industrial maintenance/mechanical experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably food manufacturing or another regulated industry.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on troubleshooting and repair experience, and a commitment to safety, SQF, GMP, and food safety standards. The Millwright will perform preventative maintenance, respond to equipment breakdowns, support continuous improvement initiatives, and assist in the development and mentoring of apprentice millwrights.
As part of the recruitment process, selected candidates will be required to complete a practical skills assessment, including testing related to lathe machine operation and welding/fabrication abilities.
The position requires the ability to work independently, respond effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and provide off-shift support as required.
Shift Schedule on-site in our Whitby, ON facility:
- Monday to Friday
- Rotating every two weeks:
- Days: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
- Afternoons: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- Nights: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
What you’ll do:
Maintenance & Repair
- Perform preventative maintenance (PMs) and planned work on production and packaging equipment in a safe and timely manner
- Troubleshoot and complete reactive repairs according to priority to minimize equipment downtime
- Repair, rebuild, and fabricate spare parts using shop equipment (welding, lathe, milling machine, drill press, hand tools)
- Disassemble, reassemble, relocate, and install equipment as required
- Maintain and repair high-speed food processing and packaging equipment, conveyors, vacuum pumps, compressors, fan blowers, and associated systems
- Work with PLC-controlled equipment (mechanical interface and fault identification)
- Support improvement projects alongside the Maintenance Manager to enhance equipment performance, reliability, and safety
- Assist with day-to-day work assignment and coordination when required
- Support the development, training, and skills sign-off of Apprentice Millwrights
- Assist with sourcing parts and planning timely rebuilds or repairs
Safety, Sanitation & Compliance
- Work in compliance with all health and safety regulations, including working at heights, confined spaces, and lockout/tagout procedures
- Maintain clean, organized work areas in compliance with SQF, GMP, and food safety standards
- Perform sanitation, housekeeping, and clean-up duties within maintenance and machine areas
- Ensure maintenance activities prevent contamination risks within food production areas
- Work closely with Production Supervisors, Quality/Health & Safety, Logistics, Purchasing, Scheduling, and plant employees
- Communicate effectively regarding equipment status, risks, and maintenance needs
- Accurately complete work orders and maintenance documentation

Requirements
Where we’re looking for:
- Licensed Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) - 433A (Ontario), OR
- Minimum 5 years of relevant industrial mechanical maintenance experience
- Experience ideally within food manufacturing or another regulated manufacturing environment
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair high-speed processing and packaging equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on fabrication and shop equipment experience
- Welding and lathe machine experience required
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, technical drawings, and maintenance documentation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Physical ability to stand, walk, crouch, stretch, work at heights or in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Assets:
- Experience with printing and packaging machinery
- Forklift, EWP, and Working at Heights certifications
- Knowledge of WHMIS, industrial safety practices, and general industrial building codes
- Leadership experience or Team Lead exposure in a maintenance environment
Additional Requirements:
- Availability to provide off-shift support (on-call or emergency response) as required
- Flexibility to cover alternate shifts or overtime on a voluntary basis
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and safety-focused mindset
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Must be able to keep pace with converting equipment, while standing, bending, gripping, reaching, and lifting on a regular basis throughout the shift
- Ability to safely lift, push and pull heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
