Position Overview The Safety Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring safe and compliant operations across all work environments. This role works closely with drivers, dispatch, maintenance teams, and field operations to mitigate risk, reduce incidents, and promote a strong safety culture within trucking and oilfield logistics operations.
This is a blended role involving both field and office work, including participation in an on-call rotation.
Key Responsibilities Health & Safety Leadership
Develop, implement, and maintain the company Health, Safety & Environmental Management System (HSEMS).
Promote a safety-first culture among drivers, mechanics, dispatchers, and field staff.
Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and driver safety briefings.
Provide leadership and coaching to supervisors and employees on safe work practices.
Federal Regulatory Compliance (Saskatchewan / Alberta)
Ensure compliance with all applicable workplace safety legislation.
Maintain compliance with commercial vehicle and driver regulations including Transportation requirements and National Safety Code (NSC) standards, including oversight of carrier safety obligations, vehicle inspection requirements, and hours of service compliance.
Maintain compliance with COR (Certificate of Recognition) safety programs and client contractor management systems including ISNetworld and ComplyWorks.
Monitor regulatory updates and industry guidance and ensure company policies, procedures, and training programs remain aligned with current legislation and best practices.
Oilfield Transportation & Fleet Safety
Implement driver safety programs including:Defensive drivingFatigue managementHours-of-service complianceMonitor telematics, GPS tracking, and vehicle inspection reports.
Conduct ride-alongs and field observations.
Ensure proper vehicle inspections, maintenance records, and compliance with regulations.
Hazard Identification & Risk Management
Conduct Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs) for rig move operations.
Identify hazards related to:Heavy truck operationsLoading and unloading equipment
Develop mitigation strategies and corrective action plans.
Incident Investigation & Reporting
Lead investigations for:Vehicle incidentsNear missesWorkplace injuries
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Manage incident reporting to regulatory agencies and clients.
Maintain incident logs, safety statistics, and safety performance reports.
Training & Competency Development
Develop and deliver safety training programs including:New employee orientationsDriver safety trainingEmergency response proceduresHazard identification
Maintain training records and certification compliance for all employees.
Audits & Continuous Improvement
Conduct internal HSE audits of yards, trucks, and field operations.
Track and report key HSE metrics including:TRIF / LTIF ratesVehicle incident ratesNear-miss reporting
Support client safety audits and prequalification processes.
Qualifications Education (Preferred)
Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, or related field
Certifications (Preferred)
CTSP – Certified Transportation Safety Professional
CRSP – Canadian Registered Safety Professional
COR Auditor Certification
Standard First Aid / CPR
H2S Alive
CSO
Minimum Class 5 Driver License (Class 1 preferred) with clean Driver Abstract
Experience
5–10 years of HSE experience in:Heavy Haul Transportation logisticsOilfield logisticsHeavy trucking or transportation
Experience working with oilfield service companies is strongly preferred.
Key Skills
Knowledge of OHS and heavy haul transportation regulations
Incident investigation and root cause analysis
Fleet safety and driver management
Safety management systems (COR)
Strong leadership and communication skills
Ability to influence, coach, and mentor
Working Conditions
Office and field-based role with frequent travel
May require extended hours during operational incidents or audits
Monitor daily operations to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
Conduct job site inspections, hazard assessments, and safety audits
Lead and support safety meetings, orientations, and safety stand‑downs
Investigate incidents and near‑misses, complete reports, and recommend corrective actions
Provide on‑site coaching and mentorship to field personnel
Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment and safe equipment operation
Maintain accurate safety documentation, training records, and inspection reports
Work closely with supervisors, dispatch, and management to improve safety performance
Stay current with applicable transportation regulations, occupational health and safety requirements, and industry standards
