Actuarial Project Specialist
will be an integral part of a dedicated team focused on delivering accurate recalculated pension benefit values to our members. This role is essential in ensuring that adjustments are made effectively, providing high-quality accuracy and support to our members. Here’s the exciting journey: As an Actuarial Project Specialist at HEB Manitoba, you will work on a project involving the recalculation of pension benefits previously paid to our members. This work is required due to changes in reported variables from employers, such as changes in member earnings and hours. You will work closely with our Pension Analysts and Member Records team to ensure accurate and timely recalculations, contributing to our commitment to exceptional member service. Your responsibilities will include: Calculate and process complex pension recalculations for healthcare employees, including pensions in pay and termination benefits previously paid, resulting from revised earnings, service, or hours reported by employers. Review and validate member data from multiple sources to ensure accurate benefit adjustments and compliance with plan provisions. Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as employer reporting, systems, and actuarial teams to gather supporting documentation, resolve data issues, and confirm recalculation outcomes. Prepare clear, detailed recalculation statements, audit trails, and member correspondence explaining benefit adjustments and retroactive impacts. Perform quality assurance and peer reviews to confirm the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of recalculated pension benefits and system updates. Analyze discrepancies between original and recalculated benefits, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions in a timely manner. Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of recalculation procedures within a modern pension administration system, identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency. Support project‑based work, actuarial data requests, testing initiatives, and ad hoc analyses as assigned by senior pension staff. Qualifications for Your Success: Experience & Education Completion of a post‑secondary degree or diploma in Actuarial Science, Pension Administration, Commerce, Mathematics or related field. Collaborates effectively with team members to achieve shared goals. Previous experience in pensions or benefits administration is considered an asset but not required. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered. Working knowledge of provincial legislation such as The Pension Benefits Act and the Income Tax Act. Detail oriented with strong organizational skills. Proven ability to integrate and work well with team members in a collaborative and dynamic environment. Strong analytical skills with an eye for detail and accuracy. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to work with complex data sets. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
