Job descriptionMakloc Construction – Business Development Manager Makloc Construction Inc. is a family‑owned leader in the construction industry; with an emphasis on design/build and pre‑engineered steel construction while supporting custom development for commercial, retail, oil and gas, heavy industry, and agriculture industries in Western Canada.
Reporting to the VP of Operations, Makloc Construction is seeking a full‑time Business Development Manager to contribute to the growth of the company by maximizing revenue through directed outside sales activities. The position will be based out of our Nisku head office, and the territory will include Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Business Development management responsibilities include developing long‑term relationships with existing clients, and new prospects in the assigned territory through connecting with key business executives and stakeholders.
Responsibilities included, but not limited to:
Initiate and develop strong relationships with existing accounts and qualified prospects in the assigned territory.
New business prospecting and development, including cold calling, scheduling and conducting client introductions, face‑to‑face client meetings; preparing presentations, demonstrations, proposals and value propositions to clients/prospects and respond to RFIs and RFPs.
Build rapport with existing accounts and new prospects alike by developing subject matter expertise of the construction industry.
Continuously engage clients in discussions to understand and anticipate needs, and communicate keys to project success with management, and Makloc’s internal estimating department.
Manage and maintain Makloc’s customer relationship management (CRM) system with up‑to‑date sales activities, outstanding bid status, and key client information.
Prepare monthly sales forecasts and market/client condition updates.
Promote Makloc Construction Inc. through various means: face‑to‑face meetings, trade shows, web presence, mail‑outs, etc.
Close new business deals by coordinating requirements; developing and negotiating contracts; integrating contract requirements with business operations.
Develop and manage ongoing client touch‑point campaign to ensure time is effectively managed and balanced between existing accounts and new prospects.
Develop new sales strategies and processes to support our corporate goal of continuous improvement.
Establish trendsetter ideas relating to Makloc’s sales activities and web presence.
Support Makloc’s internal project management team throughout the execution of projects, as needed.
Requirements
Proven account management/business development or other relevant experience.
5+ years of related sales experience is required.
Existing relationships within the construction industry.
Experience in a construction‑related industry.
Experience in the oil and gas industry will be considered an asset.
Post‑secondary education is required (related technical diploma, or Bachelor of Commerce is preferred).
Experience in B2B sales is preferred.
Must be a self‑starting, energetic individual.
Sense of urgency and demonstrated commitment to client satisfaction.
Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and work with limited supervision.
Must possess strong organisational, time‑management, qualification, communication, and analytical skills.
Must be goal‑oriented, and track/report individual as well as department activities/results.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and present oneself credibly and effectively at all organisational levels.
Experience in delivering client‑focused solutions based on client needs.
Excellent listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Requires a valid driver’s licence and clean driver’s abstract.
Ability to travel across a region.
Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug and alcohol test.
Ability to travel within Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, and further as required.
Compensation
Base Salary $75,000 with quarterly payments of $10,000.
Earned Day Off Program (42‑hour work week, every 4th Friday off as an earned day off).
3 weeks vacation.
Paid time off from Christmas to New Years (subject to change).
