Job descriptionPurpose Reporting into site leadership, the Energy Program Specialist will develop and execute a sustainable energy management program aligned with Musselwhite’s short‑ and long‑term operational plans. The role is on a flexible schedule with planned travel to site as required to support data validation, field engagement, project implementation, and stakeholder collaboration. The role is responsible for analyzing site energy consumption, identifying efficiency opportunities, leading improvement projects, and ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, corporate, and site energy reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Energy Strategy & Program Development
Develop, implement, and continuously improve Musselwhite’s site-wide Energy Management Program.
Align energy initiatives with the mine’s operational, financial, and sustainability goals.
Support both short-term optimization and long-term strategic planning initiatives.
Build and sustain a culture of continuous improvement focused on energy performance.
Analysis, Optimization & Cost Reduction
Analyze site-wide energy consumption data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
Develop recommendations that reduce energy intensity and improve unit operating costs.
Lead initiatives focused on energy conservation, cost avoidance, and operational efficiency.
Continually assess opportunities to improve energy efficiency across mine and process plant systems.
Project Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Lead and coordinate cross-functional project teams to execute priority energy initiatives.
Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Processing, Environmental, Health & Safety, HR, and Technical Services.
External Relations
Clearly define project expectations, roles, deliverables, and performance metrics.
Provide technical guidance and implementation support to other Full Potential initiatives.
Monitoring, Reporting & Compliance
Establish baselines and KPI frameworks to measure energy performance.
Monitor, communicate, and control performance against site targets.
Maintain compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements, including IESO/NIER programs, ESG and GHG reporting, and provincial and federal legislation.
Maintain project databases and business systems to support data-driven decision-making.
Leadership & Culture
Coach, mentor, and support site teams in achieving energy management objectives.
Promote standard procedures, policies, and best practices.
Lead by example while reinforcing Orla’s values and culture.
Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and environmental obligations.
Education and Experience
Degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in engineering, energy management, mining, processing, operations, or a related discipline.
Professional designation such as CET, CEM, or P.Eng. is considered a strong asset. Candidates without a Certified Energy Manager designation must be willing and able to obtain certification within the first six months (support provided).
Experience in mining, heavy industrial, process plant, or resource-based operations strongly preferred.
Strong data analysis, root cause analysis, and problem-solving capability.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional improvement initiatives.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Commercial mindset with a focus on cost optimization, cash flow, and operational efficiency.
Working Conditions
Flexible schedule with the option for remote work, offering strong work-life balance while maintaining close integration with site leadership and operational teams.
Periodic travel to Musselwhite Mine to support field assessments, project execution, stakeholder engagement, and performance reviews.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: CAD $145,000–$155,000 per year, depending on skills, experience, and qualifications.
Eligible for the Company’s annual short‑term incentive program; target annual bonus 15% of base salary, subject to individual and company performance.
Defined Contribution Pension Plan (DCPP): automatic 5% employer contribution, with an option for employees to receive up to an additional 4% employer match on employee contributions.
