Health and Safety Specialist (Temporary 3 months possibility of extension)
Spark Power, a trusted partner in energy across North America, is seeking a Health and Safety Specialist for a 3-month contract and possible extension to support our team in the Hamilton area.
As a Health and Safety Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and policies, conducting risk assessments, developing and implementing safety procedures, providing training to employees, investigating incidents, and driving continuous improvement in the organization's safety culture.
This temporary position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a dynamic team while making a meaningful impact on workplace safety in a fast-paced, innovative industry.
What will you do as a Health and Safety Specialist at Spark Power?
- Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures as needed.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
- Provide training and education on health and safety practices.
- Investigate and report any incidents or accidents that occur in the workplace.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and standards.
- Collaborate with other departments to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for health and safety incidents, inspections, and training activities.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in health and safety, and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety programs and implement necessary modifications to ensure ongoing compliance and effectiveness.
- Foster a positive safety culture by promoting awareness, encouraging employee engagement, and recognizing achievements in health and safety.
- All other duties as assigned.

Do you have the Spark? Here's what we're looking for :
Certification in occupational health and safety is required, and a minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in construction or electrical work is preferred, with NCSO preferred.Comprehensive understanding of relevant safety regulations and standards, including CSA Standards and applicable provincial and federal safety legislation.Familiarity with process plant construction, including hazards associated with working at heights, heavy equipment, and energy isolation.Ability to conduct and review Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), and Field-Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs).Experience in accident / incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.Working knowledge of several software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and additional software solutions.CRSP an assetWho is Spark Power?
