Job descriptionResponsibilities The Labour Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing fair, data‑driven work standards through standard operating procedure reviews, time & motion studies, and statistical analysis. This role also leads key projects to optimize warehouse performance including layout design, pick‑path improvements, and racking configurations. This position is expected to work closely with many different company departments including warehouse associates, warehouse management, distribution center management, IT, and operations support. Strong change‑management skills are required to influence stakeholders, drive continuous improvement, and guide teams through operational changes.
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
Define work elements, complete floor observations, analyze data, and implement engineered standards in Distribution Centers (DCs) across Canada. Some travel to the Unites States may be required
Trend analysis of DCs performance, efficiency, & capacity
Review, refine, and create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Lead training for warehouse staff explaining engineered labor standards (ELS)
Project management of strategic projects including layout optimization, slotting/pick paths, racking configurations.
Support/coordinate warehouse management system (WMS) configuration. Ability to translate operational requirements into WMS config/solutions.
Support the deployment of a new WMS system being implemented across Canada
Develop distribution center layout proposals (AutoCAD)
Ensure that the services provided are of highest standards possible and in accordance with the company’s standard policies and procedures
Manage own work to deliver according to project schedules; be accountable for delivery of own work product
Manage/lead projects coordinating activity between vendors, local management, IT, and operations support team
Ensure the operations follow all Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR), Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and Good Warehouse Practices (GWP)/Good Drivers Practices (GDP) for transport rules and regulations.
Other projects or duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or equivalent and 2+ years’ experience developing engineering work standards in a distribution or manufacturing environment (Experience through internships/ co-ops will count)
Experience with labor reporting/tracking programs
Familiar with statistical analysis and regression
Strong change management skills
Proficient Microsoft Excel skills
Autodesk AutoCAD experience (or similar software)
Familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, PowerBI etc.
Excellent training and presentation skills with solid oral and written communication
Eagerness for continuous improvement & a growth mindset
Ability to work in a highly matrixed, cross functional organization
Up to 90% travel is required
This position must pass a post-offer background
