Job descriptionAbout The Role We are looking for Process Engineers to provide advanced technical leadership and play a critical role in optimizing end‑to‑end operational performance across the site. This position ensures that production systems, processes, and personnel operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with organizational standards and business objectives.

The base salary range for this role is $103,200.00 – $154,800.00 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto.

Responsibilities
Demonstrate and promote exemplary safety and quality behaviours, serving as a technical role model and ensuring compliance with all operational standards and regulatory requirements.
Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of data‑driven tools and methodologies to support strategic decision‑making across the value chain—from raw material intake to final product delivery at port facilities.
Conduct high‑level analysis of operational procedures, process trends, and equipment performance, identifying systemic constraints and recommending actions to achieve or exceed production, quality, and reliability objectives.
Collaborate with Control Room Operators, plant management, maintenance teams, and cross‑functional stakeholders to ensure safe, stable, and optimized process operations.
Prepare and deliver accurate, timely operational reporting to support informed decision‑making at the site and corporate level.
Champion continuous improvement, operational excellence, and technical innovation, influencing long‑term plant performance and contributing to strategic planning initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mining, Metallurgy, Chemical, or a related discipline).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a complex industrial environment, with preference given to backgrounds in Mineral Processing, Pyrometallurgy, or Induction Furnace operations.
Demonstrated leadership experience in a fast‑paced, highly technical operational setting, including the ability to lead teams, remove operational constraints, and drive sustained process improvements.
Strong knowledge of instrumentation, automation, and process control systems, with the ability to lead initiatives enhancing process stability and equipment reliability.
Proven commitment to safety, supported by a history of proactive risk management and compliance leadership.
Advanced troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills, including experience conducting root‑cause analyses, interpreting complex data, and implementing timely corrective actions.
Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities, with a capacity to influence operational outcomes and contribute to strategic site initiatives.
