The Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. You will take ownership of complex mechanical design challenges, from concept through build, contributing directly to the development of cutting-edge CNC machining centers and custom turnkey solutions. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for engineers who bring both technical depth and a genuine love of precision manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design of mechanical components and systems for large-format CNC milling machines, from concept to production-ready drawings
Perform 3D CAD modelling in SolidWorks and conduct FEA analysis (static and dynamic) to validate designs before build
Create detailed manufacturing drawings with rigorous application of GD&T standards
Design custom fixtures, workholding solutions, and specialized automation components for end-user applications
Contribute to R&D initiatives for new machine accessories and processes specific to large machine tool platforms
Collaborate with Manufacturing, Service, Sales, and Marketing teams to drive design improvements and resolve field issues
Work directly with vendors to develop strong supplier relationships and resolve technical issues
Organize and lead design reviews, documenting decisions and managing design changes through the ECO process
Support the Service team in retrofitting and upgrading legacy equipment
Participate in hands-on work alongside manufacturing and assembly teams to validate designs in practice
Required Qualifications
5–10 years of machine design or industrial automation design experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent
Expert-level SolidWorks: 3D modelling, SolidWorks Simulation, and assemblies
Demonstrated experience with structural FEA (static and dynamic)
Proficiency in GD&T and detailed 2D drawing creation
Proven ability to design complex mechanical systems with high precision requirements
Strong problem-solving skills for multi-variable engineering challenges
Experience working in an ISO-certified engineering environment
Ability to travel internationally (US travel required)
Assets
Background in large-format or heavy equipment design
Hands-on experience with CNC machining, welding, or casting processes
Proficiency in hydraulic and pneumatic system design
Experience with metal additive manufacturing
Knowledge of CAM software
Experience with machine tool spindle, axis, or drive system design
