Job descriptionThe System Administrator I supports the design, deployment, and ongoing operation of Linux-based infrastructure and virtualized environments that power academic, research, and instructional computing. This role focuses on systems administration across Proxmox virtualization platforms, Linux servers (primarily RHEL-based), and specialized lab environments including high performance computing systems. The position also supports Windows-based lab systems, including application deployment, licensing management, and end‑user support for instructional software in academic computing environments. Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, Ubuntu, or equivalent). Manage system performance, logging, and troubleshooting for shared workloads. Knowledge of Proxmox VE environments, including VM provisioning, resource allocation, storage, and management of the system. Other VM virtualization platform experience can be used for this requirement. Manage Windows-based lab computers, including OS deployment, configuration, and maintenance. Administer and maintain application licensing for instructional and research software (e.g., AutoCad, Matlab, Solidworks, etc.). Ensure compliance with software licensing agreements and policies. Deploy and update applications across lab environments using centralized management tools (e.g., SCCM, AWS Appstream, etc.). Support faculty and students with application access, usage, and troubleshooting in lab settings. Operations & Reliability

Experience administering Linux systems (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu or similar). Experience with virtualization platforms (Proxmox, VMware or similar). Basic understanding of Linux networking, services, and system administration. Experience with scripting (Bash, Python, or similar) is preferred. Ability to manage multiple priorities and troubleshoot effectively. Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Proxmox VE. Experience supporting lab or research computing environments. Experience with Slurm job management on high performance compute environments.
