The Security and Investigation Advisor will assist with the delivery of the enterprise-wide physical security program, including risk and vulnerability assessments, security operations, compliance, investigations, and security systems, focusing on the North Coast Transmission Line (NCTL) project.
Responsibilities The role monitors, directs, and reports on all aspects of BC Hydro’s physical security operations including planning and response, compliance, systems, investigations, and policy/procedure adherence. It also establishes strong working relationships with internal business units, contractors, and external law enforcement, intelligence, and partner agencies.
Key duties include:
Conduct investigations of a highly confidential nature involving employees and/or contractors related to physical and employee security incidents.
Respond to high profile physical and employee security incidents as required.
Direct and conduct security surveys, ensuring adherence to standard procedures.
Protect security sensitive information and provide evidence for criminal complaints and civil litigation.
Develop, write, and recommend standards, methodologies, procedures, and guidelines for minimizing security risk.
Support emergency planning and response.
Build and maintain relationships within BC Hydro in areas such as Human Resources, Employee Relations, Field Operations, etc., and with law enforcement and safety officials across BC.
Create, implement, and manage security investigations and operations.
Provide consulting services to management on theft issues and problems.
Liaise with strategic private security contractors.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities Your overall goal is to provide security-related expertise and strategic thinking to safeguard BC Hydro and to support the North Coast Transmission Line project. You will be familiar with BC Hydro’s security standards and programs, relevant operating procedures, and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection compliance requirements. You will be accountable for delivery of day‑to‑day security which includes physical access control, alarm monitoring and response, investigations, incident response, and security guard management.
Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years of operational experience in Security, Policing, and/or Public Emergency Services.
Post‑secondary education of any discipline is a strong asset.
Well‑developed interpersonal, communication, writing, and presentation skills.
Strong relationship management and proven ability to influence stakeholders.
Well established relationships within law enforcement.
Knowledge and experience in protecting critical infrastructure assets.
Experience designing and implementing security operations and field investigations.
Ability to work autonomously with little direction in a fast‑paced environment.
Be able to obtain a Government of Canada Security Clearance.
Already have or are working toward a Security Management Certificate or CPP/PSP designation; expected within 12 months of hire.
Additional Information
Candidates will reside in or close to Prince George.
Work base is in Prince George and the northern region; overnight travel throughout the province of British Columbia, primarily the northern region.
Successful candidate will work a 5‑day on / 2‑day off schedule that may involve weekend and evening shifts including overtime.
A valid Class 5 Driver’s license held in good standing is required.
Position is security‑sensitive; eligibility for reliability status level security clearance required.
Pre‑qualification alcohol and drug testing required.
Must meet BC Hydro’s time‑in‑role requirement (specifics vary by employment category).
