Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest‑cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Role Overview The Underground Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all underground mobile and fixed maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable, and cost‑effective operation of mining equipment and infrastructure. This role provides leadership to maintenance teams, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, drives asset reliability, and supports production targets through strong planning, execution, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & People Management Lead, coach, and mentor underground maintenance supervisors, tradespeople, and support staff.

Set clear performance expectations and ensure consistent execution of maintenance standards.

Promote a positive safety culture, ensuring all personnel follow safe work practices and site policies.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management Ensure all maintenance activities meet mining regulations, company policies, and OEM requirements.

Conduct regular underground inspections, audits, and incident reviews.

Identify and mitigate operational risks associated with equipment, infrastructure, and work practices.

Maintenance Planning & Execution

Coordinate daily, weekly, and long‑range maintenance schedules in collaboration with Planning and Operations.

Prioritize corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance tasks to minimize downtime.

Ensure high-quality work execution and adherence to maintenance standards.

Asset Reliability & Performance

Monitor equipment performance, trends, and availability metrics to improve reliability.

Lead root cause analyses (RCA) for major failures and implement corrective actions.

Support continuous improvement initiatives and reliability engineering programs.

Budgeting & Cost Control

Manage underground maintenance budgets, cost forecasts, and performance indicators.

Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining equipment safety and reliability.

Review contractor work, service agreements, and parts procurement for efficiency and value.

Coordination & Communication

Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Projects to align maintenance work with site priorities.

Communicate equipment status, risks, and maintenance performance to senior leadership.

Participate in operational planning meetings and emergency response situations as required.

Qualifications

Red Seal trades certificate or Engineering degree/diploma (Mechanical, Electrical, or Mining preferred).

7–10+ years of maintenance experience in an underground hard‑rock mining environment.

3–5+ years of leadership experience in maintenance or operations.

Strong knowledge of underground mobile equipment (LHDs, trucks, jumbos, bolters, utility equipment).

Experience with maintenance planning systems (SAP, or CMMS equivalent).

Proven ability to manage budgets, KPIs, and multi‑disciplinary teams.

Strong communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capabilities.

Working Conditions

Schedule is 7 on/7 off or 14 on/14 off.
